I think I killed my 2600k - Page 6

Download the falcon 4 ultimate boot cd and there are a ton of voltage/stress tests you can run. Be sure that you read the info file on the cd cause its not for "saavvy" computer techs lol. Its pretty in depth but has a ton of helpful tools on it. Even has a mini xp bootable environment. As for the AHCI if its not enabled yet in bios dont enable it until you delete the registry keys associated with windows 7 trim and ssd features. Google it and it should be one of the first links on the results page, from a microsoft tech site. Youll also have to change one of the hex values from 3 to 0 but it should give you step by step of how to do it.

Anyone else have any suggestions on how to test my Mobo, or should I just ask Amazon to send me a new one?

Just got done rendering a 720p video from Youtube. Using CPU-ID, it showed my CPU never getting up to the max 3.8GHz turbo boost speed.. It topped out at 3.5GHz..

Is this a VRM issue?

It rendered a 6min 44sec video in 11mins 21seconds.

Much faster than my previous Q6600.. but I'd like to render in real time.. What OC would I need to reach this?

Lesson here kids - don't listen to the tech reports - overclocking isn't some magic button that gives you free candy. Nothing in life is free. Do it slowly, carefully, don't expect too much. I made the same mistake at first years ago. Now I don't do much outside of stock voltages (just a personal feeling).
Wulf I render and such every once and a while but don't just look at the numbers as some magical thing. Look at actual tests 4.4ghz to even 5.0ghz is only going to be measured in seconds for a multi minute render. In most tests the 2600k is only an advantage measured in seconds over a 2500k so. Just something to think about before you crank it to 11.
For me it didn't matter enough to risk lower life or anything.

If one core is being used it won't reach max, unless you overclocked each cores turbo frequency.

Use stress test software and monitor.

This is true, however I game as well. And BFBC2 is very optimized, as I was told it was developed on an i7. So I would see performance gains in my video games as well.. I want to be able to record PC while playing. Using Playclaw or Fraps. Or recording demos is another option.. but fewer games support that.

BC2 doesn't really show much of a performance gain over 4.5 ghz. It's not like you're going to be able to tell the difference between 95 FPS and 100 FPS when a tank is blowing up the house you're in.

Now if you could somehow manage to run it at 5.5 ghz, now we're talking....but in order for that to even make a difference, you'd have to be way over 100 fps anyway, and at that point, it simply won't matter.
