[CNN] Why would-be engineers end up as English majors - Page 31

Correction: Law and Pharmacy are time consuming, not hard, there's a difference.

When it comes to things based in mathematics, there's a chance that you're just not good enough, that no amount of time can save you...that's hard.

I view time consuming and hard as very different things.

Good to see someone gets it. It was/is getting tiring hearing all the people whine about their professors not speaking proper english. I took plenty of courses from people who's english sucked....I got over it and got through it.

Really? Twelve years of school and you're not suppose to learn very much?

Sorry, the US public school system is moving in this direction and it's slowly killing this country.

After reading all of this, I'm a little nervous about starting on my Aerospace Engineering degree soon. I'm not too awful worried though, as I have enjoyed and understood the calculus I've had to deal with up 'til now. I guess only time will tell.

But that really sucks. Frankly, if you are paying that much more, I would demand better teachers. Not ones to hold my hand, but to teach us the fundamentals as clear and purposeful as possible. Especially with the right notation and proper terminology. Surely, won't their teachers be paid more because of this increase?
Doubt it. (Engg gpa entrance being higher then med)

This on so many levels. Also i dont know about most schools in the states but at the UofA (alberta) most of our classes are curved anyways so your marks are all relative to your classmates, but everyone still cries about how unfair it is that there prof sucks. Your all in the same boat together, grow a pair and suck it up.

Good luck. My friend graduated from Illinois (top 5 engr school) 2 years ago with about a 3.6 gpa. Couldn't get hired by Boeing, etc. Ended up joining the air force after all that.

It's just sad.

I don't want to be in this conversation anymore.

Peace.

most technical fields require a special mindset to excel in. ive got a degree in computer science, but ill never do anything with it because i simply DESPISE programming. even though i was generaly one of the top students in every class, i just couldnt stand sitting at a computer searching through thousands of lines of code to find a typo.

What is this?

If you dont have the drive motivation and capacity to learn a subject then you dont belong in an engineering field doing tech work. I don't want people who can "just pass english" working on making buildings/bridges or working on IT infrastructure.

Life isnt easy and neither is engineering.

I feel their pain, getting a BS in Biology was quite time consuming and yet there is very little in terms of job opportunities. It essentially forces me to go back to graduate school if I ever want to make a decent living.
