My stupid friend thinks you can eyefinity with three of these cables - Page 2

Well as the others said Mini DP > HDMI - og in my casse on a 5770 Just DP > HDMI

There are guite a few ways of getting eyefinity though .. ..

I'm using 2x DVI and one DisplayPort > VGA (Found one that works) .. possible the cheapest way to have eyefinity..

All I can remember is that one DVI or was it DP ?? is using the same signal as one of the other and you have to use an "Active" adapter to use a third DVI monitor in Eyefinity.

As far as I know with my little eyefinity experience, you can only gain eyefinity in these modes:

2x DVI, 1x DP
1xDVI, 1x HDMI, 1xDP
3x DP

So .. I had to get that "active" DP adaptor, but I did some research and found a DP>VGA adaptor that worked as an active - else it would have been alot more xpensive

He refuses to believe that you could use these cables in an Eyefinity setup:

Amazon.com: Rosewill-Pellucid HD Series High Speed Swivel HDMI Cable with Ethernet (10 FEET): Electronics

with more than 2 monitors on our graphics card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-336-_-Product

You would just have to buy 4 of those cables and convert them to Mini-DisplayPort with this adapter (you could also use the one already included with the card):

Amazon.com: Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (female) Cable: Electronics

Since the cables have an on-board chip that samples the signal, thus making the cables active.
No.

For the 5870 Eyefinity 6 cards, 2 DP ports can have a passive adapter, and 4 DP ports must be active adapters.

Not only that, but you are overpaying for those HDMI cables. Sure the cables would work but you'd theoretically be paying $90 for 6 monitor eyefinity. Do you really need an HDMI with a built in ethernet signal?

Also, I think you are confusing the meaning of "active" in the titles. There is a difference between an active DP adapter for eyefinity and an active HDMI cable.

You would need:
-5870 Eyefinity 6 card (the one you linked to is fine)
-2 passive/active adapters
-4 active adapters
-6 HDMI cables (or DVI, if you prefer)

EDIT: sorry I didn't read that you mentioned eyefinity with more than 2 monitors.
In that case, you can have 2 monitors passively connected to your card, and the rest of the monitors need an active DP adapter. It's a hardware limitation, there is no way around it.

Yes, you can use those, provided you have an active DP adapter.
