Witcher 2 performance issues

Thread Starter
Hello guys i have horrible performance in the flotsam area in witcher 2.

Even with the lowest settings i can't get the game to run above 25fps, and often dips into the 11-15 range. This is very strange considering i had no such performance issues in the prologue. I'd like some input. I know my CPU is aging, could that be the main culprit. although i can run shogun 2 with just about everything enabled 35-45 fps.

Some advice would be very helpful

Witcher 2 definitely needs a bit of optimization on both the low and high end but judging from your specs it probably is the cpu.

when will that be. how much of a difference performance wise will it make. These sandy bridge CPUs look extraordinarily efficient.

There is another problem. Unfortunately for me I live outside of the US, where i live computer components are mad expensive. so i generally buy stuff when i visit the sates, which usually happens once a year, and this year it will be late may. so i need to buy stuff that will be out there before mid june.

Ok guys, this is extraordinary. I reinstalled my gpu drivers and set shadows at medium turned off ssoa, vignette & uberwhatever. Now I'm getting FPS between 25-35, averaging around 29-30ish which is very playable for me.

In any case I've decided to upgrade my machine regardless.

Should i also get a second 560

The 2500k combo is fine, LGA 2011 wont be cheap. One GTX 560 Ti is also enough. Make sure Ubersampling is off.

Are you using the 275.27 beta drivers? There's huge performance gains in Witcher 2 and supposedly a nice dual core processor performance bump too (up to 12%).

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-275.27-beta-driver.html

From what I've heard you need to remove the 3D Vision drivers too because they cause the game to run worse. Oh and make sure Ubersampling is disabled.
