Help: How to get to 4ghz + on my E3400 2.6ghz LGA 775 - Page 2

Im not at my pc at the moment but ill take a photo later showing you how to change the ram timing.

Also download core temp and keep an eye on your load temps while overclocked. You don't want to cook the poor chip.

Yup, I got all the key basics when I decided to start OCing.

46c is the MAX I see when benching at my current clock of 3.64 (280x13)

3.7ghz gave me 49c but was unstable
4.0ghz did not register, it was too unstable to open anything without crashing and doing a blue screen dump prep.

Thanks for helping me and snapping those photos for me later, it really ought to help.

I have been reading a lot tonight on OCing with this Mobo but all have been with Quads and a couple higher E's so I am not really sure about using what I saw.

Under the Intel motherboards section there is a club for p5q owners, some in there may have more experience with your chip.

Might be a good place to pick up some tips.

Here is the link to my 3DMark06 test, I dont think I did very well. lol
This test was at 3.64ghz, 1066 ram at 1120 and no GPU OC.

For some reason its not reading all the info correctly.

Whats the best quad to get?
The best looks to be the QX9770 but they are hard to track down for a decent price.
What kind of overclocking can the QX9770 take?

I just did a good deal of reading on the QX9770 and ES and am not impressed except for price. lol

Just going to stick with my plans and wait for Q4 or fine another "Cheap" E series chip to play with.

Did no one see his power supply?

It's a Logisys.

Ditch that piece of crap RIGHT NOW.

Yeah, I was looking in the PSU thread to replace that pos. :3

I want a good PSU that I can use on this build, then swap over to my Sandy Bridge build once the prices drop come Q4 or Q1 next year.

Anyone have a great 800+ Watt Modular PSU in mind with enough cable length for proper cable management that they would like to suggest?

On a proc note, I have been looking at QX9650 procs tonight and they seem to offer a great performance potential for not much cash. It seems that they average $100-$150 and OC really well. Thats 4x less than the QX9770 is going for! x_x

btw, I was looking at my board specs and it says up to 1600mhz bus with OCing.
If I used the multiplier will this limitation end up hurting my OC performance with the QX9650 or even if I manage to find a cheap QX9770?

Here is a tech article that I am reading about the QX9650 and how they got it to near 4.7ghz stable under watercooling. While I dont plan to water cool that still tells me I should be able to get around 3.7ghz - 4ghz I would think with a quality sink.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/2404/1

Anyone looking to OC a QX, this is really good reading.
