For example:
AMD Opteron 6128 (8-Core @ 2GHz) - $270
AMD Opteron 6134 (8-Core @ 2.3GHz) - $550

More than double the price for .3GHz increase in clock speed
That really is quite a bit lower. That's almost half :O

I'll see how it pans out.

he said fold while NOT gaming

I don't think you can manually designate cores for certain tasks like that

Do you think the price of Intel's cpu's might drop in response to this? I'm getting ready for my first build, but should I wait for Bulldozer?

Yes you should wait, by the looks of the motherboards they have been making for BD i'm pretty confident BD will be good And intel will drop prices in response to that

IIRC the motherboards should launch around or before the 7th (Computex 2011)
And the CPU's are set to launch June 11th so should be available soon after that.

Or just use the task manager built into windows and use the "Set Affinity" option. It is very easy to assign what cores you want for each process. You can have cores 0, 3 and 7 for gaming and the others for folding, etc. Can mix and match however you want. How do people not know about this?
