I just hope that BD is competitive enough to accelerate the release of Ivy Bridge

Well, I would say that the FX lineup is aimed at a niche market...us, basically. If they would throw these into Alienware PC's, yeah sure. But I think they know better than trying to trick us

Phenom II x6 and x4 980 etc probably represent a small part of AMD sales.( don't have any hard evidence, using logic here)

I never said that it's impossible.

But that's not the point, 8cores@4.2Ghz on stock cooling is very impressive non the less.
Well, this FX lineup will also represent a small part of AMD sales, these aren't mainstream CPU's.

This whole refresh of AMD's lineup is what they needed. They are betting on the big money maker, the server market. With such upcoming products like "Interlagos" they should be able to get more corporate market share. After all, that's where all the money to be made is in the corporate sales.

I can't afford a GTX 570, let alone an FX-8110

Hmm, I don't think the FX-4110 is looking very good given its price. I mean, really, for $100 more you're getting double the cores.

Those of you wanting Intel price drops out of this may want to consider: When Phenom II was released, prices on x58 and C2Q chips remained the same. They're still the same as a matter of fact. Then, when Phenom II x6 was introduced, prices of P55 and x58 chips remained the same. They're still the same to this day.. $280 for a Q9550, $200 for entry level Lynnfield, and $280 for entry level x58.

Bulldozer would have to beat SB before Intel would lower prices IMO.

True. But you have to think back to P4 Athlon days.. the FX was faster over all CPU then the EE yet Intel still charged more for it. It's all about a items "name".

That is a huge TDP jump for 200Mhz.... something seems wrong?
The high clock speeds though, expected. AMD has gotten really high on Phenom II and I expected Bulldozer to be the same. Now all we need is 4Ghz stock clock w/o Turbo and people will flock to AMD
