720BE question

Thread Starter
So Iv tried to overclock my bro's pc and I'm not sure if I succeeded.

Well It's stock speed is 2.8GHz. Iv managed to get it to 3.4GHz and core unlocked also northbridge is at 2200 MHz and 1.3V. Processor is at 1.44V. I'm worried if its too high? I don't really have experience with AMD overclocking. Iv
ran Prime 95 test for 2 hours. No errors, well processor temp never went over 58C. So is it safe that way? And can I overclock it a bit more? To at least 3.6GHz? It scored Cinebench-4 it was 2.31 before.

Your looking great now. However, for AMD CPU's most people try to keep them under 55C. If you can get a new cooler you should be able to bump the voltage to at least 1.5v and get to 3.6ghz. Remember that 1.55v is the normal max that most people don't go over.

Good clocks...get a nice cpu cooler and rock it to 3.6ghz...beyond that is a unknown, the 720's rarely go over 3.8ghz but still...push it...that's why ur here

i give up on helping with the 720's
amd dude comes into every one of them with his 3.8 bs. then he never visits that thread again to see what ive posted.
@amd-dude, stick with the x2 until you read the 700 club thread. these processors are c2 never a c3. only a handful at the MOST ever hit 3.8 at mega voltage.
the chips usually max out at 3.6 maybe 3.5 at moderately safe voltage.

my other post on the 720 http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/10...l#post13580746

what i typed in summary
from everything ive read 3.6 is the high point in the majority of high clocks on the 720. an x4 20, i dont see it getting any higher without serious cooling and then thats still not a problem. the chips run cool. they clock higher in almost all cases on an am3 board. 3.6 is only on am3 boards from EVERYTHING i have read. and it takes mega voltage.
a bit over 3.5 is normal on a ddr2 board if you can hit it without running into a voltage wall. it also depends on 32bit or 64bit. i could hit 3.2 unlocked on auto volts and 3.5 on 1.45-1.4626v on win7 32 bit. now im running a locked triple at 3.5 on 1.475 volts using win 7 64bit.
all i can say is dont get your hopes up.
check the stable/non-stable overclock max thread both locked and unlocked are there.
stated at the top,"stable defined by yourselves." that could mean anything including being able to post, boot and surf on firefox.

yeah they're kind of funny chips, they unlock easily and stay really cool but just can't OC as much as people would like them to. They CAN reach 4ghz though, just at 1.6v (fun for a quick bench). I got mine stable at 4ghz for 1 hour at 1.6v and it didn't break 45C on air.

@ pc-illiterate Hence i stated that the chips on average get up to 3.6ghz and RARELY go to 3.8ghz and beyond...this is the trend i have noticed with some of the guys that i have helped here...they tend to unlock better than most chips, but OC at a beotch....I'm not claiming that they can get high clocks...but he does not know if he got a golden chip unless he pushes it...that's how i realized I can get to 4.3ghz and beyond.

And BTW reading about a chip and actually doing are two different things....everyone told me that my X2 would be lucky to pass 3.8 -4ghz....and by trying for myself...look where i got it to

Ive tried it at 3.5GHz same voltage. Its unstable, it has been running prime for 5 hours. Never passed 58C.

Have you tried playing with the cpu-nb...cause in order for me to get up to 4.5ghz I need to have my cpu-nb at 2600mhz with 1.31v exactly...any deviation...and i'm unstable...keep in mind @ 4.2ghz the cpu-nb can hit 2800mhz without a hitch. Maybe you can try that and see if it helps.

As for now as it's air cooled, I'll stick to 3.4 GHz, maybe will try to play with NB later ;p.
