Pentium M concerning temps

Thread Starter
Hi there,

I recently bought a Thinkpad T41 with the Pentium M 745 1.8Ghz
Its idling at about 38-40 degrees C, and reaches aroud 91 degrees C at load.
But feels extremely stable, and the heatsink does not feel like 91 degrees to the touch. I applied new thermal pad to the cpu, and i didn't change anything.
Now is it a sensor problem, or does the Pentium just run THAT hot?

Any help appreciated.

The Netburst Pentiums usually tend to run hot, but the Pentium M is not a Netburst. The Pentium M is essentially the origin of the Core (1) Solo/Duo, and it shouldn't run hot in general, but it depends on many factors. Is that a Pentium M, or a Pentium 4 M. Sometimes people get the two confused, and they are two very different CPUs.

Pentiums run hot thats just a fact of life. your idle temps sounds about right but under loads sounds a bit hot but chances are if the heatblock isnt very hot then the sensor is defective

It is a Mobile Pentium M 745. Everest reports the temp to be 53 degrees c at load. But Hardwaremonitor says something else..
So confusing, wish i had a temperature meter.

I would trust Everest then. If it was 91C, you'd burn yourself. I've touched 91C before. It's not fun.

The Pentium M doesn't typically run hot. It's not a Netburst. Those are the hot running Pentiums.

Try core temp, This is the most reliable one I found yet it tells me my sig is 42oc atm and just probed it with my little temp sensor and it came out the same, I love hw mointer but it can be abit enthusiastic on some pc's

I had that in mind. Have used coretemp for years. Unfortunately coretemp does not support the Pentium M 745.
