No you have not missed anything. I'm still mulling over which one to get but I'm getting there and I will update this thread soon to let you guys know, don't worry

Because of the price I would need to stump up(which I'm willing to) for the mamba and rat9 I'm taking a little extra time looking into it. I said I wanted to order one at the weekend but that has just passed so I've decided just to take it slow and just play TF2 and SP games for the time being until I make my mind up.

By the way I decided to look at the mamba also after seeing that I can get one at the same price as the rat9, it would be foolish not to look at all the options.

So I've made up my mind if anyone was interested in knowing & Earlz I've decided to go with the Sidewinder X8.

That's right came somewhat unexpected even to myself. I was hardly thinking of it much at first and I don't hold Microsoft to a high regard after my experience with their cheap end mice but hopefully this Sidewinder X8 will turn out a bit better. The price is good and they won't be producing them anymore so you could say this is their last offering and one more chance, the last chance they get from me.

Thought about the mamba for a moment when was looking at the rat 9 also but then saw it used a custom battery with no spare to hot swap. I need one completely wireless simply out of necessity which is the only reason why I'm going wireless & my Deathadder 1800 is sadly being retired and so the rat 9 had some appeal.

Rat 9 - I like it, spent the most time looking at it & came close but I feel its for another occasion.

G700 - I'm not exactly sure why I'm not going for it. Logitech peripherals, I didn't realize this but when I look around, I find that I own them the most not out of some sort of fanboy loyalty but their products I've had have been very good. Maybe I just don't need all the buttons or design hasn't grabbed me this time but I can't see anything very wrong with it. I would definitely go for it on another occasion if & when there is a next time and if I'm not happy with the Sidewinder X8.

I wasn't planning to but now I find myself doing this. I have the SteelSeries 4HD lined up, best hard mat I could find for the price. Wondering if anyone has any input on this one to go with the Sidewinder X8.

i have heard great things about the G700 and logitech has superb build quality for mice (I have owned 4 of them).

dont touch the MS sidewinder, unless you have super long hands. maybe the most uncomfortable mouse ever, not designed by a gamer... this coming from someone who works for them

I seriously like really really am in love with my Logitech MX-1000 mouse. It is extremely responsive, never lags or every times out or nothing. And it has a great weight to me. Plenty of extra buttons and you can customize em too. I know its not aimed for gaming per se, but it is really perfect for me.

How long have you used the Sidewinder?
Disgruntled employee? j/k

I wear mid size gloves and I find the X8 and X5 to be the most comfortable mouse out there. Just as comfortable as the Naos 3200, if not more so, due to the thumb button placement.

To the OP, here's a side by side comparison I did of the X8, Naos 3200, and the MSIE 3.0. In my opinion it beats both of those "top notch" wired mouses.

So, don't have second thoughts, cause you are gonna love it.

I almost bought an X8 after comparing it to a lot of mice but ended up going with the X5 because it was on sale for 25$. But the X8 has a lot better build quality and blue track is suppose to be pretty good.

The 4HD should be all you ever need in a mouse pad btw, I love mine.

I love love love my G700. Tracks nice, and its got more buttons than I know what to do with. The battery life is kinda meh. I get two, maybe three days out of mine.

I had the X8 before, BIG mouse, but I found it comfy with larger hands. The battery life was about a week too.

So I thought I'd post a little update about the sidewinder x8. I got the X8 today and have spent a few hours with it and its not bad. Its been quite good. At first for a second I thought I got a dead mouse but quickly realized the rechargeable battery was dead so I put my own eneloop ones in.

The dpi switches are my favourite aspect so far. Tracking and so on is fine so far along with the wireless connectivity. I was expecting it to feel heavy at 144g but its not. Not as light as a deathadder or mx518 but not as heavy as I thought it would be. I should get the 4HD by tomorrow or the weekend btw.

There is one big issue at the moment that I'm taking time to adjust to and that is how I hold the mouse. Its not the size. I like to think I have normal size hands, not small or big. Its the shape, specifically the rear end where the hump is. In my opinion its too far behind and high for my liking in contrast to all the other mice I've used so instead I'm trying to change the way I hold it.

I'm going to give it a little time and see how it turns out, if I'm not able to adjust to it then I might send it back and go for the G700. That is so far the only issue I have.

Glad to hear you like it, when you get the 4HD in you should notice the mouse will slide significantly faster and more smoothly which might help a bit.

Personally though I think every mouse takes some getting used to, especially if you have only been using Logitech mice for a long time (like me).
