o i c thanks. What do I need a KillCoil for then if the water is already distilled?
I change mine every 2-3 months just to be safe and keep an eye on my block conditions and any possible growths.

Once filled you shouldnt find it needs topping up at all as its a sealed loop,if it needs topping up then its got a slow leak or you didnt bleed the air out;)

There can easily be microbials in your blocks/hose/rads/pump before you put it all together. 99% silver prohibits growth of such, keeping your H2O just H2O and nothing more.

if you have a silver coin, it would do the same thing too

Depends on the coin, older ones are usually pure enough, newer ones are more "silver" than pure silver. Besides, a killcoil is like $5 and keeps your loop sparkly clean. No way can you keep algae spores out of your loop, so killing them is the way to go. So many, many ways for spores to get in, mixing with the water while you fill, fingerprints on the barbs, hidden in tubing that's been sitting around... Get a killcoil or buy some PT Nuke.

Or you could use tap water without protection and end up with a loop full of pond water lachen.gif

No. Tap water contains minerals and stuff that will not be fun to clean out of your loop. Distilled water is a water cooler's friend.

Anywhere from about $200-$250USD (assuming you buy something like a RASA kit and add on some extras) all the way up to several thousand dollars for a big bling, highly effective setup.

I assembled my custom loop a year ago. used distilled water and PT nuke. I haven't had to add any water.

the same water is still crystal clear a year later....

And check water levels weekly or more, but you shouldn't need to top up a fully closed loop between flushes really.

Excuse me for thread hijack, but I've got to ask for some pictures of allikat's loop, if possible.
