The $9.99 Harbor Freight Rotary Tool

Thread Starter
I'll be doing some case mods on my new Antec 900 using the $9.99 rotary tool from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/80-piec...kit-97626.html

Now If you do a lot of case mods for yourself or other people the extra horse power in the Dremel Rotary is going to speed things up and may be more reliable. However if you are like me and have one computer and really don't plan on using the rotary outside of this case mod, then the Harbor Freight tool wins out.

Today I'm gonna test it out by drilling the PSU flip fan hole on the bottom of the case as well as some wire management holes. I'm still contemplating the full window mod so I may use it on that too. I will be using these cut off wheels: http://www.harborfreight.com/5-piece...scs-31501.html

just get the standard 1 1/2inch cutting discs. I used the diamond ones before.
Also use steps bits for making cable management holes. Yes I have used all the tools before

I got the diamond set just in case the one that came with it isn't up to the task but I haven't opened them up yet so I can return it at any time

Yeah step bits are baller for cable management holes. Was planning to use the rotary for any oblong shaped cuts.

For oblong holes, I'd suggest drilling a hole at each end/corner then connect them with a jigsaw or cutting wheel on the Dremel. I personally pull out my router, but I realize that a lot of modders do not own one.

Yeah I'm trying not to use tools most people don't have. My routing is terrible anyways lol

You know, I got that tool a few months back, it was way under powered if you ask me. The discs also slipped a lot, even though the screw was as tight as can be.
I couldn't get it to cut through my cases metal. Perhaps you will have better luck.

The Black & Decker 3 speed RTX is $29.99 @ WalMart and is comparable in speed and power to the Dremel line.
