Very alarmed... completely rather random black screens (GTX 470)

So as of recently my rig is getting black screens and not recovering from them... usually followed by a system reboot after several seconds.

It happens mostly when hitting desktop, opening a game up, and sometimes just opening a browser... This is happening 3+ times a day and is really stressing me out as gaming on my rig is the only thing keeping me entertained besides Netflix on my phone at the moment.

Video card is a referance GTX 470 from EVGA. I don't even have it overclocked right now as I was getting this issue for a while until I backed clocks down to stock. But now its back again and getting worse... just started it up and got a rainbow of oil related pinkish-purple-blue-white-red... etc etc...

I do believe my GPU is registered with EVGA. But this will suck big time if I have to send it in.

Um... you don't suppose it could be my CPU though? It has also grown unstable in the past few months and was seeming to be fixed by dropping the CPU speed. I'm just at a loss and need to figure this out ASAP...

I'll answer any questions to the best of my ability if asked. I just hope my whole rig isn't kicking the bucket already... if it is I'll be saving up for a new rig though... was hoping to save towards some surgery/medication needs I'll have eventually that insurance does not recognize...

Sounds like the cpu is throwing a huge wobbly so im sorry to say you may need to rma it thankfully evga are quick at getting it sent back to you

Cpu wise it should be fine but hopefully that shouldn't be at fault

Do you have a friend who you can borrow their rig to test the gpu in or cpu?

Or even ur parents comp does it have a pci-e slot

Unfortunately I can not test this in another computer.

Tried stressing each part individually?

Run Furmark, watch temps, run Prime95/IBT/whatever, watch temps, Memtest, the works.

Try to find a way to repeat the error on-demand, then we might be able to narrow it down.

Doesn't sound like a RAM issue, but you never know.

Does your mobo have integrated video, or do you have a spare video card lying around you could throw in to see if the problem goes away?

Unfortunately I have no onboard video... I think. Also no GPU laying around for testing... will have to try running tests in a few days when I have the time.
