Your GREATEST upgrade ever. - Page 19

Taking a Celeron D and overclocking it from 800MHz to about 1.2GHZ, was fast until it caught fire lol

A Dell Inspiron 1150 (2.4GHz socket 448 northwood celeron, 40gb hdd, 512MB 266MHz DDR, intel 82852/82855 graphics, 14.25'', win xp) laptop to sig rig.

I was cackle-breathing "whoa"s when I was settting up my monitor. Youtube would skip many frames and blurr, and now I can max(or nearly) out every game I have.

Monsterous jump when i Bios Flashed my K7S5A mobo to run a 3200+_ barton core i got

even more noteworthy change when i jumped to 939 =)~

but bigger stiill

Replacing my Opteron 165 with my current i7

I wont need a new piece of hardware for a long time

Two come to the top of my head:

Going from a Pentium 4 to a Q6600 was a huge leap in terms of performance.

Also going from on-board audio and generic 2.0 speakers to a dedicated sound card and 5.1 was a huge jump and enjoyment-wise was greater than the CPU upgrade.

The biggest upgrade...

Well in terms of gaming, which is always the most appearent, it would be my old VooDoo 3500. I remember installing that and just being amazed at the better graphics in Unreal Tournement. I think it was from a VooDoo 2000 or something like that.

However, it would be on par with my upgrading to a 8800GTX from a X1950 Pro. That was incredible as well.

In terms of production...probably would be my A64 3200. I consider that my first "real" CPU. The old Althons and P4s i had around before that beast were just crap in comparison. Though that happened again with my E6600. I remember running Super Pi over and over and just staring at the results...it was unbelieveable.

I doubt we will see upgrades like that for a while. That was back in the days when even operating systems and MS Office was pushing hardware. Now days software isn't that demanding compared to most common hardware found these days.
