73 celsius for a graphics card to high? - Page 2

Turn off hardware acceleration in firefox and adobe flash player. Maybe thats why you get high idle temps. I used to. And clean PC maybe

You might try using EVGA precision or rivatuner to set a fan speed profile for your card. you can set a certain percentage when it reaches a certain temperature threshold, so you dont have to keep going back and forth between high and low fan RPMs. Check to see if going to 100% doesn't help your temps first though, as that could be a sign of dust buildup or gunk.

A can or two of compressed air usually does the trick for cleaning out dust. Advice: before starting take all the doors off of your PC case (including the front panel if it's easily removed), and make sure to do this process outside or at least in the garage.

Are you running 2 monitors, btw? Because dual monitor setups will make the card run warmer as your card will never drop to 2d clocks when 2 monitors are plugged into it. This is 'by design', but there are workarounds out there.

Try reseating the HS/Fan? Obviously, you would need to clean the old TIM off first, and then reapply new layer.

Yeah, still seems a bit high. My 480 hits around 70-75 on Witcher 2 at 100% and its a notoriously hot card., and I am OCed to 701 core. It sounds like you need to redo your heatsink and TIM.
