Need 13-14'' Portable Laptop $850. - Page 2

Also I found this HP dm3t laptop which is 13.3. Check it out

I know I'll be opening a can of worms here but I reckon a used 13" MBP would work quite well, sure its apple but how is it inferior to a HP/dell? It is much higher quality, the screens are IPS and the 13" model is very portable. Even the older MBP's are pretty nice, C2D/9600gt's are far from slow for a laptop(it'd outperform my m11x easy).

Apple's laptops use TN panels (albeit high quality ones).
/Just sayin'

That ASUS looks very good for the price.

The Dell Inspiron 14r is really good too, my sister has that and its a solid notebook, battery isnt too great though.

I also concur with Joe... if your just using it just for school work and internet browsing, might as well look into a Macbook, they're as stylish as they get, solid build quality and specs are decent too.

Done some googling and some are saying they are, some are saying they aren't. From what I've seen they appear to be incredibly high quality TN or IPS, I'd be leaning towards IPS but tbh apple has never said so yeah.

Boom. Saved you about $300. Lasts 8 hours max, 4ish hours on load. Can handle 1080p without a sweat. Pretty thin too.

They're using high-quality TNs. The IPS screens haven't been manufactured for these laptops. Even the extremely high quality RGB LED screens found on some of the high-end Dell XPS laptops are TN.

If they did, it would drive the price way up. In any case, we can agree on one thing: they use high-quality panels, unlike other manufacturers.

You know, I've read people saying that but I can't find anybody who has any proof to back it up. Not saying that it isn't right, its just that I can't find any proof
