Does setting GPU Fan speeds higher reduce GPU life expectancy?

My card wasn't cool enough when I OC'd it, it went up to about 80 degrees with fans on Auto. The fans ran at like 30%.

I set the fans to 50% now and the card runs much cooler, and I still do not hear the sound of the fans.

Since the fans ALWAYS run at 50% now, could this shorten the life expectancy of my GPU? It is a Twin Frozr II 6870.

At 50% fan speed, no. If you're running at 70-100% fan speed 24/7, then yes.

The easy way to fix this is to use a program like MSI AB or anything that offers a custom fan profiling option. You set up a fan profile so your GPUs aren't constantly running at high fan speeds unless you're gaming. When the temperatures rise while gaming, so will the fan speed (depending on how you set up the fan profile).

Running a custom fan profile lowered my GPU temps by at least 20c, they really do wonders.

No, OC'ing it will have more of an affect than the fans.

Both fan speed and OC have such little effect on life span that you will most likely have a new card before it ever dies.

If the worst comes to the worse and the fan dies.... buy a new one for it. But this is extremely unlikely to happen as a result of it running 20% faster. If it breaks it was going to break anyway imo.

What will reduce the GPU life is heat + low % fans. So don't be shy to put some good % while testing or gaming.
