It's alright, but if the 768MB version can be had for the same amount of money it's faster. I'm starting to think your friend probably doesn't have a very good PSU, so I'll recommend the Radeon HD 5770 for $112 and the Radeon HD 6850 for $165.

Sorry for linking to Newegg US before.

5770 vs GTX 460 768MB @ 95$

I mean 95$ for a GTX 460 sounds like awesome to me.

Sure, but what exact PSU does your friend have? If it's a generic cheapo "400W" unit that is a relabeled 250W unit, it could spell disaster. If a Power Supply fails at full load at many times it can take other components with it.

It's a generic thingy, but I told him to get a CX430 soon. He will. With his budget at 150$, I told him to get a 100$ gpu and the CX430 (he might order later). It all comes down to:

GTX 460 768MB vs 5770.

THEY ARE BOTH AT 95$ after rebates.

The GTX 460 768MB is MUCH faster than the Radeon HD 5770, so that's an easy choice.

If you're gonna get the CX430, make sure you get the second version. It has better internals than the first. For $50, another Power Supply to consider is the Antec EarthWatts 380W. It's a highly regarded low power PSU.

If he cant afford a proper power supply (that cx430 i suspect would be MUCH better then some generic "420w" that probably outputs 200w on the 12v) then he cant afford to get a better (more power hungry) GPU.

GTX 460 or 5770 + cx430 would be perfect for his budget, and performance needs, good selection.

Great psu suggestion, i have one, and its a very solid nice quiet PSU, I never hear the 80mm fan running on my quad with 2 near silent 120mm fans. Some cons: usually comes without the wall power cable (you have one already no big deal), its green (not a con for some people), the cables are not sleeved, and are not overly long, which for a normal midsize case shouldnt be a problem.
