Power cable question...

Thread Starter
I have an Asus P8P67 Deluxe mobo and a Seasonic X850 PSU. I know I need to connect both the 8 pin and 24 pin cables between the two, but on the PSU side, will I actually have two 8 pin power connections plugged in? (One for CPU and one for mobo?)

Also, the 8 pin to 8 pin cable that comes with the Seasonic is an 8/4+4 - that should be no problem, correct? The 4+4 won't fit on the PSU side, but does fit on the mobo, though it feels a little less secure with both clips trying to fit on the single mobo connector...

Hey Dalz!

Yes, you are suppose to connect the 8-pin to the motherboard. The 4+4 pin works as an 8-pin and can be combine to plug right into the 8-pin on the motherboard and its very secure. You don't need a 8 pin for the CPU. There should be only 1, 8-pin connecting to the ASUS P8P67. Does this answer your question?

Thanks cheenou - I think I've got it figured out now. I had actually miscounted the pins on the Y split, but either way the board wouldn't power on until I had both connectors on the Y plugged into the PSU. (Plus the 8/4+4.) Definitely been a frustrating build... I appreciate the response tho.
