So, I unlocked my 6950..

Hello all, two weeks ago i flashed my card to the 6970, and just a few days ago i bought a new PSU. I tried to overclock my CPU a little, i failed and after that my card is not stable @ 880/1375 which is the stock for the 6970. I underclocked back to 800/1250 (6950 stock) and it is fine. Why did that happen? Can i re-overclock it to 880/1375 by raising the voltage a bit? If so, then how much? Also, when I run a game or sth, it crashes after a minute and i need to reboot the system.

What 7ranslucen7 said, also, use a voltage monitoring program to see if its got 1.174ish volts going to it atm, incase it reverted to stock 6950 volts or something, i beleve the 6970 voltage is about 1.170ish? If it has reverted it will have 1.1 volts under load.

If I remember correctly, most issues with unlocking the 6950 to the 6970 bios have been with the voltage settings. Apparently the 6950s memory can't handle the voltage that the 6970s bios sets it to. This issue doesn't show up on every card however. It seems the best way to "unlock" the 6950 is with a modded bios that unlocks the shaders only, then you can fine tune the core clock and memory clock to whatever is stable. There are plenty of modded bios' out there. Give me a sec and I'll see if I can locate a good one for ya.

I, myself have reverted it, so as it to be stable. Should i try to overclock it back to 880/1375 add up the voltage? From CCC how much can i overvolt? All the way, or is it too much?

Edit: From what i read, i overvolted to 1.175v and it seems stable now...
Running some stress tests...

Yes, if you wanted to keep it working as a 6970 you need to put the volts back up.

Personally, i wouldn't have unlocked it at all, the actual fps difference it provides extra in games ranges from 1-10 fps depending on the game, i personally don't think thats a fair anough trade for a possible much shorter life-span for the gpu. I didnt unlock mine, just OC'd it and it runs every game max settings perfectly, didnt see the need, GL though.

i really dont like when ppl flash to 6970...

just unlock the shaders and over clock

mines stable 6 hours @ 1Ghz core and 1500 Mem....
