OCing on 955 BE stock heatsink?

How advisable is it? I've heard the stock heatsink is actually quite good, but haven't heard of any OCing on it.

Thinking of going with a 212 or maybe a Corsair H50. Thoughts?

both are good coolers. the h50 might net you a bit more performance- especially if you get some good fans like scythe gentle typhoons in push/pull.

as for the stock cooler, you can try it. just use amd overdrive or cpuid hardware monitor to check your temps, and as long as they stay below ~45-50*c at full load, it will be fine. (the max recommended temp for these chips is 60, but stability pretty much goes out the window around 50, so try to stay below that. also, make sure you go by the cpu socket temp instead of the core temp, as the core temp #'s can be a little off with these chips sometimes.

here is a good guide to help get you started.

good luck

I was able to do 3dmark stable runs at 4GHz with the stock cooler on my 1090T

This however was not prime 95 stable or anything. You can still get very decent OC's out of the stock cooler.

OCing on the stock cooler is doable, with a decent 955 u cud probably hit around 3.5-3.6 with safe temperatures around the 50-55 zone. Might have to bump voltage up as well, but generally on stock voltage most 955's hit 3.4+

So, basically if I'm looking to push 3.8 (which is around my goal,) I'll need an aftermarket CPU cooler...
