People would just need to submit their HFM logs to show folding during the competition. It would delay the prizegiving (all submissions would need to be checked after the competition ended), but would be a much fairer way of doing things even for those with minimal hardware.

Fold for 1 day = 1 chance to win
Fold for 10 days = 10 chances to win
Again, since we're all on the same name, how do we tell who Folded for how long? HFM doesn't work for v7, and a fair few people were using that. And the logs on that are incredibly difficult to interperet.

And keep in mind, I'll be going through the entries, and it's usually during my exams. So whatever method we use needs to be simple enough that I can get through them quickly, rather than have to go through pages of log files for each person.

For those who have been whining about prizes that granted to "ONE TIME" folding for CC .. if you want to take mine, let me know. I would ask Zodac to ship it to you directly.

I don't fold for your team but I wanted to give you all a hand. If the prize I won bother you guys that much, then take it back and give it to someone else.

Regards.

I think we are all going in the same direction. We know we want a small change how prizes are given and we just need to figure out how. Theres no need to get all mad about it since we have a full year to figure it out. Im sure we can all compromise. BTW I dont think that we will lose big folders because of this issue. Peeps that are here is due to that they like the community, some even like zodac. I can go to EVGA and get $120 every year but I rather stay here and drive zodac and Chris crazy.

I would imagine that HFM will work with v7 by next year though, and we'd be able to sort something out.

As for going through the log files - that's what VB is for. Quick script in Excel and you've just checked all 700 entries without even looking up from your textbooks...

That's not the point - I don't think anyone can complain about the system after the event, and if they try then they're just being sore losers. The point is to encourage new folders to OCN (and to folding in general).

The real problem that we need to work out a way to stop is the people who folded just enough to enter into the draw, just so they could try for a prize. Personally I don't think there should be any points threshold - someone who gives up using their P3 for a week deserves a prize far more than someone with an i7 who just paused their life for 20 minutes while they knocked out half a WU.

Just to clarify what my postbit proposal was...

Delay the prize giveaway 10-14 days, to give the NEW folders a chance to get their postbit after the CC ends. This way they can qualify for higher tier prizes too.

50K points in 10-14 days is doable no? This encourages ongoing folding, not just 1 time folding during the CC.

Isn't the goal of the CC to bring new folders in, that can potentially fold long term?

The structure now is proof of 1 WU past 50%.

Sure that's easy enough, and I wonder how many people only did that 1 WU to qualify for prizes? No way to prove it, but I'm sure it happened.

2 weeks is not nearly long enough for some - when I started folding I only had an e2160, an Athlon II x2 245 and a T9400 to fold on. The units required to start to earn bonus points took me 4 days or so, and even then I was only getting ~5k per day.

Not everyone games, and not everyone owns a quad etc. And personally I think the effort is more important than the output - if someone folds 24/7 and does what they can, that (to me) is more important than someone dropping a single bigadv on their monster gaming rig.

After all, if you can afford the hardware to get your postbit in a few days, do you need a prize? An older GPU or similar could make a huge difference to a folder just starting on crappy hardware, but wouldn't even get used by someone with a rig capable of high ppd.

I thought it was ok, of course it'll have flaws, you can't keep "everyone" happy. That's only human nature.

I didn't win anything, but I never expect it anyway, lol. I was happy to participate on my lowly GTS 450 pumping out WU's as much as I could during the CC. I'm not a full-time folder either, but I jumped in to help out. Prizes are just a bonus.

I'm satisfied enough to get the 2011 CC participation postbit (Icon, whatever) we get soon! (I think?)

I dont appreciate your tone. Don't passively attack me because you dont understand that my scenario would not be the exception. There are plenty of people with folding postbits that haven't crunched a WU in a while. If ~100 of those came back and folded for the CC, suddenly we get priority over other folders who have yet to get their folding postbit. How exactly is that fair to everyone else that comes onboard to help during the competition(s)?

2010 is offering a couple of week period for people to get their post bit afterwards, and while that may be feasible for most people, it adds a couple of weeks to the draw, which could result in a loss of interest. If the postbit is going to become something to get people into different tiers, then have people qualify in the weeks leading up to the CC.

I'll make it pretty clear; while I have a say, there will not be a restriction based on postbit, posts, REP or join date for the CC prizes.

If anything, there may be a one set of prizes for everyone, and another set for those who complete a set number of points or WUs.
