2500k core voltage problem

Thread Starter 
When im at 4.5ghz the vcore is @1.315v however when it underclocks to 1.6ghz because of turbo mode its still at the same volts accoridng to cpu-z.
I have basically all of my settings at auto in bios and manually set voltage to 1.315v.

Whats the point of turbo mode if it doesnt lower the voltage when it underclocks to 1.6ghz... Clarification please?

Also should i underclock because im maxing out at 73C on one of my cores during intel burn test and under normal use im at high 30's low 40's...

When at idle, along with the multi, the voltage will reduce only when you use offset voltage instead of manual.

EDIT: I would recommend running prime blend, apparently it's the best stress tester for these chips. By the way, are you using Intel Burntest with AVX and updated linkpack?

Try running that and post a screenshot with real temp running. Also make sure you have Special pack 1 installed.

How do i do offset voltage as compared to manual voltage? Im guessing the offset voltage would be lower than the manual because it can either add volage or lower it right whenever right?

No idea tbh... how do i check and do u have a dl link for the right burn test than?

Actually a member (compudaze) here found that, when you using offset you are more prone to bsod on idle, therefore concluded that extra voltage is required when using offset as apose to manual.

I would recommend keeping it at manual. What you must understand is that there is a big difference running these volts in idle and under load, for example, mine does 1.6ghz with 1.48 IDLE and draws around 10watts but under 100% load it goes just above 100watts. Nothing to worry about when running manual voltage.

That clears a bunch of confusion up! But out of curiosity what are your temps under stress testing and on normal use?? I think mine are a little too high...

If you want dynamically changing voltage based on load, you need to use offset voltage. However, using offset voltage is hit or miss for some. Using manual voltage is usually a sure thing.

Worried about idling at such a high voltage? Don't be. 1.3V at ~10amps idling is a lot different than 1.3V at ~90amps load.

If you really want offset voltage, you may end up having to use a higher than needed load voltage to make sure things are stable at idle and low load. An alternative to this which I'm currently testing out, is using a lower LLC level in conjunction to offset voltage. For example: If you need 1.3V using manual voltage using Ultra High LLC, then try just High LLC with offset voltage to get that same load 1.3V. This should in theory increase your idle and partial load voltages, but keep your max load voltage only as much as you need.

Again, this is usually hit or miss. My current setup has no trouble with offset voltage using the same load voltage and LLC level as manual voltage, whereas my previous board had random BSODs but was prime stable.
