[ScienceDaily] Video Game Playing Increases Food Intake in Teens, Study Confirms - Page 10

Well no $h!7 you'll expend more energy playing video games than somebody just laying around because your brain is using up energy. Exactly the reason why people get tired staring at a computer screen all day.

interesting article....i def can see where they are coming from...

as for the whole "eating fats and carbs blah blah blah"...let me tell you my personal experience with this....first off i was sitting at 300 pounds in january, def fat and def out of shape. I have been taking martial arts for the last 3 years of my life and with all the horse stance, running, jumping jacks, bag work and forms i wasnt loseing weight, no matter how hard i pushed myself. So i talked to my doctor....and guess what? DIET IS A HUGE FACTOR, EVEN BIGGER THEN EXERCISE.....

look i went from eating garbage, to controlled meals...i eat a lot of pasta, pretty much eat it every single day. i usually try to eat 4-5 meals a day and as soon as i switched to that i dropped 15 pounds in 3 weeks....metabolism changed..add that with my work out and now im down 30 pounds total since January.

All im trying to say is you can eat fatty foods and carbs everyday BUT in moderation and control...my roomate is a good example of this. He will sit down while gaming and eat more food then 2-3 of my daily meals....justs while gaming....it almost grosses me out.....change your diet and you will see, MODERATION MODERATION MODERATION......i can eat pasta every single day and my body will still be the leaner trim version it is right now....thanks to moderation and control...if you sit there and eat 2 pounds of pasta in one sitting, then ya....your body is going to be fat, out of shape and squishy.....MODERATION IS KEY....and thats from a Doctor....

as for eating while gaming....honestly i drink a lot of water or tea/juice.....i dont eat much just becuase i usually get into gaming and lose track of time and ignore my hunger...i play a lot of SC2 4v4 and CSS lately so sometimes between a match in SC2 or when the map changes in CSS ill get a meal if im like super hungry but otherwise, not so much.

This. Preferably Ice water so I feel cold inside hahah. For me my appetite increases when being active, not sedentary.

If your overweight and you game I have no sympathy, it is one of the things that is destroying this world (not just our country). I'm sorry for those who are overweight, kind of. I would really feel sorry if studies proved that you can eat anything and still gain weight, unfortunately that only happens with people who have medical problems. Otherwise your lazy and eat too much, go out and explore reality.

It's been said for eons. You have to intake specific calories for certain tasks (calories gotten from different sources burn differently), as well as high protein intake (for building/maintaining muscle mass). Your pasta diet is probably a bad thing, high in carb and low in protein. Unless your muscle mass is high enough to require a high carb diet (calorie burn off to maintain mass). Honestly people don't realize that you can eat everything you want, as long as you do it at the right times and exercise to burn those calories off.

There are also tricks to curbing hunger, certain foods help you be more "full". I use milk as a crutch, it takes more energy to digest milk than what you actually get from eating it. You get full for hours off minimal intake (a glass of milk plus a snack) and might even burn calories doing so. [edit] Plus I LOVE milk! =)

Let me rephrase the title:

Teens increase their food intake out of their own free will while playing video games, common sense confirms.

No.

First of all everything is about moderation. So yes pasta is high in carbs, which amazingly are good for you, in moderation. And cheese is high in fats, which amazingly, are good for you, in moderation.

As for the sauces you can buy healthy sauces easily or make your own or not have any. As for meats, if you want a healthy meat just eat chicken. As for veg is very simple.... carrots, mushrooms, peppers, brocolli, potatos etc. You can literally throw what ever you want together and it will work.

Also I don't agree with this "Gamers don't have 40 minutes to make a meal" idea. If you want to live, eat. Making your own meal is not hard at all and there is no reason you can't take 20-40 minutes out of your game time of how ever many hours (lets say 4) to make a something to eat.

Honestly this is going to sound really rude but the people saying I'm wrong are probably just fat idiots who blame their diet on everyone and everything else but themselves. It's fine to eat fast food all your life and have a heart attack at the age of 30, but don't blame your diet on anyone but yourself. It's extremely easy and cheap to eat healthily and it is only laziness that stops people.
I can agree with that, except for the healthy meat part... what about different meats makes them unhealthy? They each have their own strengths and weaknesses. I'm not saying you believe that chicken is the only healthy meat but just thought I'd try to clear that part up since unless it's gone bad, meat isn't unhealthy.
