SLI or upgrade card?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Got a little money to spend. Should I get another 9800GT Akimbo to SLI? Or should I just buy a different (used) like a GTX260 (I want it to fold/game) or something like that? Is 9800GT SLI still relevant today? Used on a 1080p monitor.

Thanks for any help.

I would upgrade to a faster single GPU card.. And not a GTX 260. 9800 SLI > GTX 260.

I suggest you upgrade to a faster single GPU card in the 4xx/5xx series though... But your power supply will need to be upgraded also. You can find some GTX 480's or 570's floating around the For Sale section that go for only $250.

All of this also depends on what games you play.

9800gt sli ~ gtx 260. So, which every one is cheaper. Most likely it'll be the 9800. Yes, it is relevant. It plays crysis 2, even on a single card.

I don't have a lot of money. Max is about $100. I don't game often either. If I were to buy an upgrade card, I would sell my current one.

Also, what is the most bang for buck GPU in my situation? Should I buy another 9800GT?

You can pick up a GTX 460 1GB for about $100 if you buy used, great card and a huge upgrade from 9800's.

For $100 I think you should be able to pick up a used 460 1GB on here.

I would be getting an upgraded card. If you SLI those 2, there's a high chance you would need to upgrade your PSU as well adding even more cost to it.

So go something like a 260+ and convert to windows 7 and all shall be right with the world.

I don't see any 460s at the price. http://www.overclock.net/video/10216...0-shipped.html This looks enticing but no warranty is a turn off.

I have an Antec TPT 650W in my other system and have no problem switching. Windows 7 installation will come soon since DVD burner doesn't recognize DVDs.
