OCCT "Error on Core XX" question

Thread Starter
I've been running a 955 BE C2 for over a year now at 3.7 GHz at 1.39v and have never had any problems the whole year, so I decided I had it too lucky and decided to mess with the memory this weekend.

The memory is two 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS3 at 1333MHz and 9-9-9-24-34 timings. I can, at 1333MHz, tighten the timings to 7-8-7-21-33 and its perfectly stable (an hour of OCCT at large data set is stable enough for me). I drop the 7-8-7 down to 7-7-7 and I now get an "error detected on core XX" with so far a different core each time. I change it back, it runs perfectly fine for another hour of OCCT. I up the frequency to 1600MHz, the DRAM voltage to 1.65v and the latencies to anything under 11-11-11-29-39, it throws the same error. I have yet to get a blue screen error while messing with my memory.

I am puzzled, as increasing the VCore to as much as 1.42v makes no difference, and I don't think I need more voltage to run stable at that low a speed. I have the NB voltage at 1.26, as well and, again, I have not had a blue screen error since I originally overclocked this rig.

Its not the end of the world if I cannot achieve 1600MHz or lower than 7-8-7 latencies at 1333MHz, but I would really like to do better with what I have currently as the next hardware I buy is going to be a completely new system next spring and this system will get reduced to family usage.

Anyone have any ideas or at least run into this before?

in my experience: i get better performance from higher speeds and looser timings than vice versa, and have found more stable overclocks at 1:3.33 than 1:4. its probably right on the edge of the range for your memory that isn't enough to bsod but still cause an error on the imc- thats just a guess. i don't know what the max v's for xms' are but for dominators, i messaged RamGuy @ corsair's forums and he said the max v's for my sticks were 1.8.
