As suggested if you're talking about avg. frame rates then yes, there is a clear difference between the two. Most definitely a noticeable one.

But let's assume that you're just talking plain frame rates, in which case you will se a difference if you are using a monitor with more than 60 Hz refresh rate.

Why would you cap your fps at 20... Using normal v-sync and thus capping at 60fps with a 60hz monitor will eliminate almost all tearing, while allowing you to maintain a smooth 60fps.

And because 20fps is absolutely terribad for gaming of any kind (well rts games might be okay). I do not see how you can claim that the small tearing ruins the gameplay since running @ 20fps is surely a bigger nuisance.

20fps... horrible... just horrible...

You didn't say that? So now a single bulldozer module will operate over 100% capacity at the same clock speed if one core is active than it would if both cores were active? So how much of a performance impact is CMT?

So just to clarify a single module will not operate at most 100% capacity even if one of the two cores is inactive, and if both cores are active it will not operate at 80% the capacity that two full bulldozer cores would?

Thats a pretty general assumption there JF. Are you saying nobody here selected their CPU based on the performance of the cores rather than the price of core count?

I mean I wouldn't put it past my mom or my grandpa to purchase based on that sort of logic with the help of best buy, but you can't expect all customers are without knowledge, can you?

If you are going to quote me then quote me properly. Don't paraphrase me.

Your generalizations are putting things out of context.

You should compare one CPU to one CPU. Or compare two processors at the same price point.

Comparing on core count is not realistic because that is not how customers buy. They say things like "I have $300, what is the best CPU for my budget." I have never heard someone say "I need 4 cores, what is the best CPU for those 4 cores."
^
This, heck thats how I shop for a new cpu. Price/Performance who wins this generation?

My apologies, it wasn't my intention to make my comment seem out of context with how you intended it.

Why are we arguing about a whole load of theoretical Bs? in a few weeks we will have some BD chips in our grubby mits and we can see how they perform both in synthetic benching and in real usage.

Untill then can we drop all the "OmgZZZZZ BD is going to faillZZZ" and "SB is going to be Rapezzzed" posts its not constructive helpful or informative. Stick to facts, and facts right now are pretty slim on the ground.

Modules are a new idea lets see how they act in practice rather than pull a whole load of numbers out of our arses.

Looking back at the last page there have been no posts that said anything like that.

not on the last page but there is in the thread, obviously they are more subtly worded than that but not by much

I think a lot of people were thinking BD would be available for purchase coming up soon.

According to this latest report, it won't be available to end users for awhile!
