May want to read this.

Plus, look up some benchmarks of Dual Channel vs Triple Channel, the differences between them were insignificant.

Plus, considering you can get 8 GB kits ( 2 x 4GB ) for about $100, let's just say that Triple Channel is pretty much dead.

I'm not arguing whether or not AMD has used, will use or is using triple channel memory, nor the performance difference between dual and triple channel memory. It's about moving up when something has been replaced. When DDR3 came out it was barely better than DDR2, but people were jumping all over it anyway.

You're confused.

Maybe you meant why use a muzzle loader when the breech has been invented?

OT

Using that logic, triple channel is redundant too, since servers allready use quad channel, and technology to use it client side is available now.

I meant musket. Muskets were smooth bore weapons, replaced by rifles. You can rifle a barrel of a musket and still call it a musket if you want, but it still has a rifled barrel. Let's try to stay on topic here.

/facepalm

I don't care if it's redundant. That's irrelevant. Intel is making quad channel available in their next enthusiast chipset. It doesn't matter if it's "redundant" or if it doesn't bring any big differences in performance, it matters because they're setting and adopting a new standard. Which is something AMD just doesn't seem to do.

Yeah, and that's why Intel is moving in the Quad Channel direction.

AMD didn't need to adapt Triple Channel memory. They don't have to follow suit in everything Intel does.

Triple Channel kits were more expensive for minor performance gains. Intel recognized this, and that's why it was only seen in X58 chipsets, and we'll likely never see Triple Channel again.

Here's one of those reviews I talked about comparing Dual Channel vs Tri-Channel.

Conclusion

After all these tests you need to ask yourself: What the heck is that triple channel mode useful for anyway, when it is obvious that is doesn’t provide performance boost that is expected? Maybe in the future and with some new versions of memory controllers, triple channel mode will provide better performances so transition to this platform will make more sense. Until that moment triple channel mode will be just another nice sticker on LGA 1366 motherboards and memory packages.

I would rather AMD spend time/money on performance increases that actually increase performance rather than waste time on market gimmicks like triple channel memory.

Uh, rifling actually shows substantial improvements to accuracy over smoothbore.

Triple channel OTOH shows zero real world (indeed, it's even quite limited in benchmarks) gains over dual channel.

See where your analogy fails?

The rifling analogy would be better applied to dual verses quad core. Why use a smoothbore (dual) when rifling has been invented (quads.) Or on-die memory controllers. Or, hell, anything EXCEPT triple channel RAM.

Triple channel only made RAM more expensive for a single platform and more confusing to others (i.e. people not on triple channel buying triple channel RAM), without showing a huge difference
