MSI 560ti Hawk in the UK?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Its finally time for me to upgrade my graphics card from my 8800 GTS after putting it off for ages, plus buying other stuff for my PC.

My main question is regarding the MSI 560ti Hawk, which is now fairly available in the US, but here in the UK I can only find one retailer who sells it (from a UK shipping source) so I can't really get an idea of what is the best price. Its on Aria PC Technology for £209.99, which compared to the 560 tfII (~£180), looks to be a good price for the upgrades. Also, all my usual places for ordering parts don't have the 560 Hawk yet or don't plan to be getting them in.

Alternatively, my other current choice was the Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti SUPER OC 1Gb edition which is similarly price, but offers a performance boost as well. Does anyone have a thoughts on this card?

Have any of you UK users purchased one in the UK and if you did, could you tell me where so I can compare prices?

A little bit further in, I was before heavily considering the 560ti tfII as the card to buy but since the Hawk came out, it just seems the more logical choice to me. I am going to be gaming (Crysis 2, Metro 2033, BFBC2 etc), plus doing graphics work (Photoshop, After Effects, Maya etc). Can anyone give me some advice on whether they think paying the extra is going to be worth it, plus if I would justify the 560 Hawk (I dont plan to OC it)?

Thanks in advanced!

Im not from UK, so I dont know where to get your cards but, go with the Hawk. GB SOC get hot. Real hot. You'll be able to squeeze a bit for out of her. Overclock the overclock a bit. 1000mhz - 1025mhz. I dont have the hawk but I have a Twin Frozr 900mhz. Im, stable at about 1010mhz. Those extra 15mhz or about, youll get out of the SOC I dont think are worth it, compared to how COOL the Hawk willl stay. They toned down the 1000mhz SOC to 950mhz for a while. I do see they sell both now.

If your looking for fastest card, SOC will be a bit faster than an OC Hawk, but if your looking for COOLER (temp) wise, go hawk. MSI makes great cards that have low temps.

Hope this helps.

You will absolutely not regret purchasing the Hawk, I'm glad I got it.

You'll even get more usage out of yours than I do, I'm feeling the 2 core bottleneck on my quad core in high-end dual core games.

Here is a great review of the gigabyte 560 ti SOC. They saw performance drops when clocking past the 1ghz point on the core. The memory on the card can also be over clocked significantly. But, you wont have the voltage control for ram that the hawk offers. On the other side of the coin gigabyte bins the chips it puts in the SOC cards, so your getting the some of the best batches available.
