How can you state that his terms are too ambiguous, and then go to criticize my terms, in which I ask him to quantify his terms? Again, I said it's not ok to merely say, "I run maxed." There is not enough information there to deem that statement as a viable answer. Do you agree with that? You've contradicted yourself several times. You called him ambiguous, then proceed to bash me because I gave specific examples. Wow, how exciting it must be to take both sides of the argument, criticize both of them, and then claim yourself as the correct one! It's truly admirable.

It's the same as saying, "That car is good." Well, what's good about the car? Do you like how it handles? Do you like how it looks? Was the price to your liking? Maybe it was a mix of all of the above.

And still, you try to patronize me and call me omnipotent, when I never made such a claim.

I stated that most people would say that 30fps is fine. Is this an incorrect statement? What part of that statement was wrong? Indeed, most people would say 30fps is fine for gaming. You, however, seem to believe that my statement somehow deems me omnipotent. Please explain your logic. I would genuinely be interested in how you came to that conclusion.

All we have here is a difference of opinion on what the phrase "playing a game maxed out" means. I happen to agree that the term "maxed out" refers to all graphical settings to maximum with playable frame rates (average above 30fps). Senator is saying that in order to "max out" a game you have to set the graphical settings to maximum as well as maintain a steady 60fps. All I know for sure is that I would rather play a game with maximum graphical settings at 30 frames per seconds then at medium settings and 60 frames per second.

If you bothered to read the discussion thus far you would see that crysis and metro need not be excluded. I posted a metro bench where my single GTX560ti ran at 38 fps with max settings (minus dof). Then somebody came along and said 30 fps wasn't payable and things went from there...

It would've helped if you had put the 60 frames per second requirement in the OP. In that case I'd go for it and get an MSI GTX 580 lightning.

My proof that 30FPS is acceptable? Ever watch a movie? 29.97FPS.

Perhaps some people see no difference past a stable 30FPS.
Well, he says he isn't trolling and he has a list of rules in his signature about how he is not a troll, so clearly he can't possibly be a troll.

Movies stay at a consistent frame rate. Depending on what format you are talking about (film, VHS, DVD, etc), this can be 25 or more FPS. Video games jump up and down, making this comparison antagonistically spurious.

In most circumstances, the higher the overall frame rate, the less the frame rate ever dips down below 35 to 40 frames per second, hence smooth performance. This is why I can see a significant difference between an 8800 GT running a game at 28 frames per second and a GTX 480 running the same game at 60+ frames per second.

Agree.

Or get a vanilla 580 and over clock it; mine gets about 20 MHz shy of that model with stock voltage.

60fps, maximum AA and AF? That will be harder then you thought. You will need, at the minimum, a GTX 580/480, or a 6950/6970 2Gb, even then, recording at that rate will be very difficult, you might have to turn down or completely forget about AA and AF. If you had the possibility to go SLi/Crossfire, things get easier, but you still have to have ample VRAM to handle AA. A dedicated HDD is a must no matter what card you go with. And yes, this turned into an all out war. I HAVE to forget about AA/AF on all games besides Source titles, and the only reason I believe 30fps is acceptable is because I've never experienced anything over two 4870's. But I believe 60fps is a good goal though. It's obvious on OCN that the term "max out" is like directly comparing AMD and Nvidia. Not a good idea to even ask.
