New laptop for friend going to college, $600 budget

Thread Starter
What is your maximum budget?
$600

What country are you in?
USA

What will be the uses of this laptop?
My friend is using it for college, but I'm sure he would appreciate being able to run SC2. It needs a good battery life

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Not really

What screen size do you require?
Not that important

What screen resolution do you require?
Not that important

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
NEW

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
Two hours or more, preferably more

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
SC2, medium/low is fine

What operating system do you need? (if any)
No operating system needed, he can get it through the university for free

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
No

How much hard drive space do you need?
Doesn't really matter

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
A webcam and mic

Is there anything else we need to know?
He doesn't care too much about weight/size, but he will be lugging it around campus and it can't be too heavy. It's fine if it can't run SC2, but that would be nice. I know it's a tight budget, and if you know any sites with deals, that would be great

It's $50 over your budget. It has a huge hard drive, a decent video card, and a beefy processor. It's also a Lenovo, meaning it's practically indestructible. Your friend should be able to play Starcraft II on max graphics without the computer breaking a sweat.

(It's also $100 off the regular price! good deal!)

Edit: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBcW90ngh4g[/ame] <-- If any doubt about Lenovo, watch this. They make quality products.

The nvidia 310m is horrible, it will only be able to play much older games and I'm speaking from experience because I played sc2 on low and I was barely getting 60 fps, 30-40fps in combat.

I would suggest something with a 5650 or higher video card wise.

no doubt Lenovo is one of the most reliable brands for laptops though =)
