Which Card should I buy/PSU Compatiblity

I am looking to get into gaming. I probably will buy Red Alert 3, Portal 2, and various other steam games that I haven't heard of mainly because I've been "out" of the PC gaming world for a while.

I have this motherboard: OCZ Stealth Extreme II (The bottom chart).

I am thinking I want either a 570 GTX or an ATI 6970. I know I skimped a little on the PSU (I didn't not realize this when building, first time builder. Besides wondering what graphics card would be good for me, my main question is about the 12v rails these cards require. I remember reading that a certain 570 GTX required a rail of 36A. Since I have 4x18A rails (I suppose 2 of them are going to the CPU?), can I "add" them together to get this to work?

Please recommended any high end card that should work with this build.

EDIT: Even though my monitor right now is 1280x1024, I plan on getting a 24" widescreen soon.

Your cpu does not use 12v it uses the 3.3v. As for if either of those cards will work, I believe they should be fine. I believe the 6970 is a little more power efficient, so you may want to go that route just to be safe. Just keep in mind when looking at gpu reviews that your PSU WILL NOT be capable of putting out 600 watts to your gpu.

EDIT: Yea looks like the GTX570 uses about 40 watts more at load.

The CPU does use the +12V rail, quite heavily so.
The +3.3V rail of most power supplies would hardly be sufficient in most cases these days.

LinuxHack3r, your PSU will power any single video card on the market, even a GTX 590.

How so? I know you are trying to simplify things for me, but I don't understand this:

Requirements for EVGA Superclocked 570 GTX:
Quote:
550 watt or greater power supply with a minimum of 38 amps on the +12 volt rail.
If I use both my remaining 12V rails, that is only 36A. Is EVGA just overestimating to cover themselves?

Do yourself a favor and forget about the whole multi rail thing, it's simpler that way. See underneath your four 18A rails -- it says 600W. Divide that by 12 and you have your rough amperage. Don't worry about where the power goes after it comes out of your PSU, modern PSUs do have dynamic load balancing. Otherwise this kind of stuff would easily turn into a huge headache.

So in that case, would a 570 or a 6970 be better performance? I'm leaning towards the Nvidia, I've always bought them and I have no reason not to.

But I am wondering if the 2Gb ATI would offer any benefits when it came to games/rendering things with a lot of textures?

Meh, both cards are neck to neck in every benchmark out there. If you have an inclination toward one brand or the other, stick with it. I don't think either choice would be wrong here.

What is the difference between the 1572AR and the 1573KR? I am having a hard time figuring this one out on my Thunderbolt.
