Intel i7 2600k with Asus Maximus IV Extreme - Page 2

As far as I'm concerned, the i7 2600k is the fastest Intel CPU on the market, and the M-IV-Extreme is the BEST 1155 board on the market (with the Big Bang Marshall as a close second!). Yes. Very yes.

It has a lot feature catered towards that market. Not saying it isn't for regular 24/7 setups, but you may not get to use all the features it has to offer. If you want to run a single or dual video card setup, then you can look at other boards in Asus' lineup or other manufactures. I had the Deluxe and the Asrock Extreme 6, both were nice boards, but I liked the Asrock better and both are considerbly less than the MEIV. If you plan on running three video cards then the MEIV, the Gigabyte UD7 and Asus WS boards would be better fits.

Thanks for all the replies guys =] really appreciate it, in terms of the mobo i am hoping to be at a tri SLI at some point.... and a quick overclock to 4.7 sounds sweet....

but there is no way that is a safe 24/7 clock right ???

When would you use these "suicide runs" ive heard of a lot of people overclocking to point where it is unstable and other then showing off I don’t get the appeal ?

4.7Ghz at 1.35v is well within spec on a 2600k. The max voltage is 1.52v, so there is still some room left, I just haven't gotten around to seeing what it will do. If you want to do three cards, then you will need a board with the NF200 chip on it, so the Gigabyte UD7, the Asus Maximus Extreme IV or the Asus WS board. An alternative is the MSI Big Bang with Lucid technology that allows for different type of GPU's to be combined, but it is still in it's early stages, so I would pass on it until they get some things worked out. If you plan on just two cards, then you have a wider, less costly selection to choose from, such as the Deluxe or the Asrock Extreme series, both are great boards, but will only support 2 cards in SLI/CF.

Suicide runs are for benchers trying to break world records, nothing more. 24/7 clocks are what you should be looking at and up to 5ghz is possible on Sandy Bridge with after market cooling.

Well anything over 4.5ghz would be a definate victory for me when i build this and OC....

Anything mroe then that a bonus... but im gunna come back for some advice when i reach that point.

For the moment the plan is SLI but you never know in a year that may become TRI SLI, With multi-screen so like i said earlier futureproofing i hope =]

Sweet, ive done quiet a few SB builds including the following MB's:

UD3R
UD4
UD5
UD7
Asus Pro
And of course my maximus

And the maximus wins by far in every area, got the best OC results.

AESTHETICS BY A LONG LONG WAY lol

PS got the best OC with the latest BIOS update they offer.

if i could recommend anything to anyone it would be a SSD, the difference is so crazzy its not even funny.

Its like comparing night and day i would deff recommend a SSD.

60GB is fine but i recommend 120GB if u can stretch it.

Or raid 0 two 60GB drives
