Please stop spreading misinformation, Ivy Bridge will not be out this year.

SBe is the next "1366" which will be out later this year, the first Ivy Bridge cpus won't be out until next year and they will make their first appearance on 1155.

Misinformation? Oh i guess you mean the expected release of ivy bridge in january of 2012. Yes its also rumored they may go at the end of this year. But january CES is where they released other processers. not sure this is 100% confirmed though. And how i could be considered spreading misinformation! Sorry please dont snitch me out, For spreading missinformation.

At this point, Intel hasn't made public a firm release date for Ivy Bridge, but everyone expects the architecture to be launched at the next year's CES, just as Intel has done with Sandy Bridge and, previously, with Clarkdale.

You still seem confused.

The first chips to come out for IB will be 1155, not "high end" as you seem to think.

SBe is coming out later this year, it is the "high end" enthusist platform - it doesn't compete with bulldozer because AMD isn't releasing any products that will be competitive with it. The last road map I saw from Intel showed IB releasing around march of 2012.

IB will be a replacement option for people who adapted SB first, the 1155 users. SBe will compete with itself, since bulldozer isn't going to be fast enough nor will it be priced high enough to actually be a contender with high end Intel chips. That isn't proven, it is however logical since AMD is attempting to position 6 cores vs 4, and 8 cores vs 4 + ht. With both pricing and performance. the 6 core 12 thread SBe will obviously be in a class of its own.

Once again, Ivy Bridge will first release on 1155, it will be a MAINSTREAM platform release, not an enthusiast release.

The i7 2600K is a boss. It's the king of the hill when it comes to Sandy Bridge processors (the newest of Intel's chipset architecture based on the x86 instruction set). IMHO, it's overkill (if there's such a thing as overkill) for most everyday use and games. However, if you like using multithreaded applications, then by all means get it! However, I would wait another 2 weeks until AMD releases their new Bulldozer line of processors and then see which one is best for you. To your OP: yes the 2600K and M4E is a great combo, if not the best for Sandy Bridge systems!
