Need hardware. 6/32 inner threaded rod?

Thread Starter
Hey guys and gals,

I'm looking for a long rod that's aluminum, and has an inner thread of 6/32. Rod should be about 12" in length. It's much like threaded spacers like this http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202210271/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

but needs to be about 12" in length. Anyone know what they may be called or where to find them from a brick and mortar store?

Or, even a solid rod with a threaded top of 6/32 will work....

Try a small local hardware store. alot of times they have odd stuff the big stores dont carry. And if they dont, the people working there tend to be able to help you out. This coming from someone who works at Lowes.

*edit* if you can wait a few days you could order from www.mcmaster.com

You may also want to check if you have a local machine shop; they should be able to make it for you.

This is actually your best bet. Finding a 12" length is going to be nearly impossible, as the most common usage of long lengths of 6/32, is in RC modeling & hobby robotics. The length you require as well as the material it's made from isn't a normally found combination.

You can try some hobby shops, but being a material (aluminum) with lesser shear strength. It's highly unlikely you will find it.

What I originally had planned was using 6/32 socket head cap screws in conjunction with a couple of non-threaded and threaded 6/32 spacers. Unfortunately, they aren't long enough.

But, I think I've figured it out. I'll use 6/32 threaded rods, with the aluminum spacers and cap screws. Then to cover the threaded rod I'll use aluminum tubing that I found at Ace Hardware for 3 bucks for 3 feet... just cut that down to size.
