Which GTX 580 makes better sense? - Page 2

Go for the 3GB 580 > better at higher resolutions, better in the long run
post #12 of 23
Will a 1.5GB GTX 580 suffice a single monitor @1080p for newer games?
Or is there games that will eat away the vram at that res?
sorry for thread jacking lol.

Ok, this thread has been cleaned, and is being monitored.

No more troll-bait/childish flame-wars, no more pushing AMD solutions when the OP did not ask about AMD alternatives, and no more posts that look like the contents of a text message you just sent to your BFF

Keep it clean, use proper English, spelling, grammar, and no more flame-wars, or this thread will be closed, and warnings/infractions may be issued.

I'll give you my honest opinion. I don't know much about Gainward products, I don't have much faith in them from what I've read. However your running three monitors, so the 3GB is a no brainer over 1.5GB mirrored. Your going to get much better performance from higher VRM hands down.

Though I do know about the Lightning series being high qaulity, very over clockable, with lower temps do to better cooliing solution, in your case based on your set up it's not the best choice for you.

Might I suggest however the EVGA GTX 580 3GB version instead? EVGA I do have experience from and it's a great company for Nvidia exclusive products.

I'm not sure if they sell them or you can acquire them in Singapore.

As for the OC factor, it's been my knowledge that the 3GB versions don't over clock as well as the 1.5GB or less. However the difference is small from OC clocks I've seen being had by both.

In your case even at lower clocks you will see greater performance on the 3GB cards over anything less, still none the less.

Good luck and let us know what you decided. Alway curious to know what the OP ended up doing.

I kinda wish I had gotten a 580 3gb version but no 3gb versions were out with AXP or third party cooler. I game at 1600p and metro 2033 and a couple other games aren't as good as I want them to be so now I'm at a crossroads - get a second 1.5gb or not.

First,Gainward is the same brand as Palit, while they may not be considered the best,Palit does offer decent non ref cards with cooling that would put ref designs to shame,I am no fan of ref coolers as they run hotter & louder,as for OC,its only the mems can't be OCed as high because its twice the size as a standard 580 1gb,btw EVGA cards are overpriced in Singapore,& I particularly dislike EVGA Super clock cards as I think they are ripoff cards sporting a mild factory OC & still slapped with a ref cooler, also do note a msi 580 lightning weighs around 1.5kg,too heavy for my liking,I find it unacceptable a Liquid cooled 580 3gb costing around the same price as a 590,u actually reccomend me a ref 580 3gb?no thanks,I hate hot cards, how can this compare to a phantom?BTW Lifetime warranty for premium brans does not apply in Singapore, only 3 years
