To clear some stuff up...

1)They said the technology used lasers, to the range would be limited by the curvature of the earth. So unless this data transmission worked via reflecting off mirrors OR it sent a main data steam from a satalite, then the satalite distributer the information to various ground areas. It seems this would be used by ISP's to provide large amounts of bandwidth to a certain area.

2)At speeds of 100+ terabites a second, that kind of speed is way to much for even the most powerful of computer calculations.

Possible uses? Maybe super fast satalite internet, or ways of making wired connections in computers obsolete. Imagine a video card that didn't even require you to plug it into the motherboard.
