Sure it may give you more boom, but voices will go through the sub as well.

hmm..what kind of sub would you recommend for my setup?

Hold on a sec....I thought the Xonar DX has a sub out on the card itself. Will not it filter out the frequencies already? At least to a manageable level?

I am using passive speakers. The way I got it setup is supplying optical out from my PC to a home theater receiver at 2.1 channel. I have my speakers and sub hooked up to my receiver.

Dayton Sub-100 is a popular choice. The Pioneer SW-8 is a decent 8" sub. Can be had for under $100 on Ebay.

Though because those speakers are rather small. A subwoofer above 8" is really overpowering for them.

Edit: The sound card does a have a sub/center out, but that only applies to 5.1 or 7.1 mode. I'm not sure if Asus' software has the ability to enable the sub/center out jack without setting it 5.1 or 7.1 mode.

Your reciever is managing the frequencys and the levels at which they are crossed over, connecting these to a sound card will act like 2 completely seperate devices, you'll only physically be able to alter volume levels and they'll even be completely out of sync

Ok. I think I now get the picture....OP got only two speakers but he will be forced to use 5.1 or 7.1 to use the sub. And that will not be good unless he is able to find 5 more speakers to hook up ! Am I getting this right?

Are you referring to my setup or OP's? My setup is running good via the receiver.

EDIT:

Easiest setup would probably be a reciever, you have digital out on the card, alls you'd need there would be a good solid 2.1 setup, to connect up to it,

ATM i running X-fi elite pro with a bose v30 over sp-dif, and quality is amazing, a reciever would be better fo you for expansion, eg you bought 2 speakers, then you wanted a sub, maybe next you may wish to add a center and rear speakers?? Who knows, but i would definatelt cancel that sub my friend
