every reciever has audio out, just remember that an amps audio out ideally should be to the speakers, if we route the audio through phono from the amp to the speakers were turnin the speakers into the amp, because the output label on the amp would be dvd or cd etc it would result in only the sub outputtin sound

Yeah, but it's not adjustable with the OP's setup. He would need a receiver to do that.

Also as for the receiver while the they do have stereo outputs it's best if they have preamp outs.

OP:

I just started a very similar thread to this. I had no idea that connecting a sub to my system would be so hard.
http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards...av40-polk.html

Whatever you do, do not connect your A2s to the sub. Connecting powered speakers to your sub will damage them (so I've read, and was advised in my thread).

Here's the solution that I'll be trying out once my RCA y-splitters come. Then per aksthem1's advice, I'll turn the crossover frequency on the sub to around 100Hz and see how it all works out.

Good luck.

Think I'll just stick with my current setup without the sub..not worth all this hassle
If anything, I'll prob sell my Xonar D2x and replace it with an amplifier/receiver and install everything

Edit: grr, I may need to sell my AudioEngine A2's also, as they can't be powered via an external amp.

Get a powered sub that has an audio out so you can connect the a2 to the sub either by using rca cables or the 3.5mm jack.
Also, buy a sub that has an adjustable crossover setting.
With this setup you don't have to buy a receiver or get rid of your sound card or a2.

So D2X to sub then sub to a2 speakers

You can actually. Receivers do have audio outs and even some have pre-amp outs.

Also this.

They Dayton Sub-80, sub-100 and sub-120 all have that, and below $200.
