Ok. This is causing my grey cells to die... I need a bit of clarification for my own education (sincerely apologize to OP for hijacking).

1. Are you referring to OP's setup WITHOUT using a receiver?
2. IF he uses a receiver, then do you agree he will NOT have any issue hooking his current speakers and sub? Or you forsee another issue as his speakers are powered?

Deffo wont be able to use this to get an effective controllable sound,
Mainly because of the purpose of the speakers, there designed to handle the full brunt of the signal, all bass, mids and highs etc with no help from a reciever or bass module, there designed simply to be desktop stereo speakers, when we introduce a sub were going to simply drown the good mids and highs the speakers can reproduce.
Even to get the speakers connected with a sub where they will both work like for like is goin to be a problem within its self, because its the speakers and sub working as a team that handle the crossovers of the necessary frequencies.

if you look at the connections of the speakers, they are input only, to input a receiver would be counter productive, and as there is no line out connection getting these to connect to a receiver for the purpose they were made for isnt going to happen, because of this the only way to output sound from a receiver to these 2 speakers would be to connect them to the headphone out of the receiver, and again we stumble across the issue of connecting the sub.

I have a powered sub, which the speakers are connected to which go to an amp, then from the amp 1 sp-dif cable to the soundcard,
I cant say how important is to ensure sub and speakers are compatible.

Your speakers are passive speakers, not active speakers right?

Absolutely, whereas the speaker the OP is tryin to connect the sub to is active,
His speakers work as the amp also, whereas mine will not work without an amp.

OK cool thank you. These "help me attach a sub" threads have been really helpful. I've learned a lot from them.

I finally did it!..hooked up my sub to my soundcard..well, it's actually hooked up to my speakers..was very easy to set up because my NuForce W-1 Subwoofer has a Line-Out connection so all I had to do was just connect the Line-out cable from my subwoofer to the Line in of my AudioEngine A2's..thats it!!

Everything sounds great!!
