I kinda disliked how the new manager looks. The fixes are nice, but the outlines on the divisions are Fugly IMHO. Plus, i've always placed the event log (old Message tab) to open first thing, and only switch to the Tasks tab to see how are my current tasks going, plus to see if it's connecting or not, especially with SETI@Home. Plus, SETI does not post that many news, and the weekly outage is... to be expected, so no need for the News tab.
I found a way to fix this in the BOINC Forums, and in no way i claim ownership over it. This fix gives you the look of the older manager while running the new client.
For users who do not like the new BOINC Manager, there is really no use for you to go back to an older version, as all the older versions are more broken than this version is.
You can easily run the new BOINC with an older BOINC Manager.
Just copy your present boincmgr.exe and boinc.dll to someplace safe, before you install the new version. Then after installing the new version, do not start it up, but exit the installer quietly, then copy your preserved boincmgr.exe and boinc.dll back to the BOINC directory. Overwrite the new versions.
Now start BOINC in your normal fashion.
This fix will get rid of your News tab, so if your project does post a lot of news, or at least more than once a month, don't use it.
Pics added. Look at the first line in the Messages screen, and look at the manager version in the small window. Pic 1 is in a 32 bit version, and second is in a 64 bit version. This has been tried on Win 7 SP1, but should work on XP/Vista as well.Edited by Starbomba - 5/24/11 at 9:25pm
