Ubuntu 11.04 killed skype webcam

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
I have Jolicloud OS 1.2, which is compatible with Ubuntu (11.04). I have Skype up and running fine with everything except webcam. I can get it to work with the webcam but only if I start Skype from Terminal (requiring it to stay open) with the following command:
Code:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype

How do I get Skype to start from the desktop with this command vise the standard command it installed with? Or even better, can I do it without terminal?

A startup script may really be the only way I can do this, as since Jolicloud runs on Ubuntu base but entirely through Chromium as its interface (even Terminal >.<). Logging in as root stops Chromium... thus rendering the OS inoperable. I was able to create a new file (run-skype, instead of skype) in
Code:
usr/bin/
with gedit and throw the
Code:
#!/bin/sh
and
Code:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype
commands in there, but Skype requires root login to change the
Code:
Exec=skype
with
Code:
Exec=run-skype
when in
Code:
/usr/share/applications/skype.desktop

Well, the startup script does not work, and I think it starts it behind the chromium based desktop. Getting closer I guess, but I could really use some help from someone smarter than me smile.gif

First thing I suggest is to not use misleading thread titles. You'll get better responses with a title that accurately reflects the issue.
