Radeon 6970's Artifacting in GTA IV:Episodes of Liberty City

Thread Starter

well i am still wondering if this is the game or if its the card, the only reason i dont think its the card is that i play Battlefield BC 2 and it does not artifact and also i can play GTA IV (not dlc) without it artifacting but why would GTA IV not artifact and Lost and the Damned does. the cards are running at a cool 44c under load, so my question is does it sound like the card or the game (or the infamous AMD DRIVERS, DUN DUN DUN DUN) lol. Also why would it do it in a dlc to GTA IV and not do it in GTA IV it self they both run off the same everything engine wise.

p.s. i tried reinstalled Episodes of Liberty City 4 times and it still happens, i also reinstalled video drivers and tried running without crossfire and still nothing. i recorded some footage to show you guys of what happens but its raw HD and i have nothing to compress it and upload to youtube so a screenshot will be coming shortly.

I had the same issue with my 5850 extreme. I thought it was the card so I sent it back... I guess I screwed the pooch.

No artifacting with my 5770... but i don't play the game enough to really notice. Try disabling your OC?

If it was yer card it would happen in everything. If it's only in that game then well... it's the game.

EFLC is a tough game to run.

I have both and GTA IV runs better and the aliasing doesn't show as much. EFLC is more demanding, the aliasing is more evident, and I can't get more than 30-40 fps on the GTX480. The engine is not exactly the same as EFLC was released a few months later, and the games have different patches, so they end up behaving differently (they're independent , anyway, you don't need to have one ir order to play the other).

When I had a Radeon HD6850 if I set the details too high, it would have rendering problems. I also had a few rendering problems with certain drivers and my GTX460 1GB. The rendering problems were sometimes the floor not rendering fast enough, I'd be walking on a huge grey square, and only a few seconds after would the road render properly.

So, if it is happening only in that game, I would say, just try another driver and /or adjust detail settings. Lower the shadows, for example. You can also try adjusting other detail settings. I hope you eventually get it playing acceptably.

Cheers!

No it's like green dots flashing everywhere, it's not the floor not rendering and stuff like that, and I figured 2 6970 is more then enough because it ran on my 2 5850s on max everything and I was getting 40-50 fps ant it was only loading the cards to 40%

Off topic:I should have just kept my 5850s, I've never had somany problems with AMD cards as I have with these
