HTPC: Perfect Playback, 24p with Samsung D630.

Thread Starter
I just finalize my HTPC video/audio decoding setup for my new 120hz HDTV.

The Auto motion plus was giving a lot of stuttering with 60hz playback and it sucked.

I am using and recommending:

- Media Player Classic Home Cinema. Best player around with proper filters.
- FFDSHOW (audio video decoder)
- LAVS Filter (for MKV decoding only)
- MadVR (Stunning video renderer. This looks terrific, must be tested. I use PowerDVD 11 and it seems years away).
- Reclock (For true 24hz playback if the movie is 23.976 or 25 hz). Also allows getting SPDIF 5.1 out of my WMV-HD (wma) without a dolby digital live card)
- Autofrequency (Allows changing desktop frequency to 24hz automatically with content).

One of the guide I referred to came from: http://www.homecinema-hd.com/intro_en.html

They show, over there, the links for the latest downloads.

Playback is silky smooth and I love the motion interpolation.

The image is very impressive with madVR renderer but you need a decent videocard and cpu. But hey, this is OCN.

24p is 23.976, if this guy is actually forcing it to play in 24.000 than he's doing it wrong.

The point of 24p is to play the film at it's native speed, which is usually 23.976. They just call it 24p because who would want to call it 23.976p?

23.976Hz is commonly referred to as 24p. Actual 24.000Hz content is pretty rare.

@Murlocke
If the guy's using Reclock, then he's probably trying to get 23.976 (24000/1001) exactly. While Intel's Clarkdale and Sandy Bridge are infamous due to the 24p issue, graphics from ATI and Nvidia aren't all that perfect, either, and those with very sensitive eyes will still notice the duplicate frame (however rare that may be).

Because video cards don't output 23.976 exactly. Nvidia, iirc, is worse than ATI. I think Nvidia outputs something like 23.972 while ATI outputs 23.978. I think the value might also be slightly different card to card.

Exactly, I am getting stuttering if I don't stretch the audio and sync the video to 24hz with reclock. The speed difference is negligible but it gets rid of stutters. My display refresh rate is 24hz not 23.976.

If I do a tearing test, it clearly shows the issue. Do you guys do otherwise?

On top of that, reclock resamples WMA tracks to AC3 5.1 (dolby digital) with imperceptible losses.

I'll show some pics tonight.

By the way, I am using Catalyst 11.5 video enhancement instead of ffdshow ones (deband, denoise, dynamic contrast, etc). The image is very good. What do you guys do?

1. Do you have a 120Hz set?
2. Do you use Auto Motion Plus or another anti-judder?
3. Do you do 24Hz playback to get rid of the 3-2 pull down problem of 60Hz playback?
