Problems connecting to the internet

Thread Starter
I built my desktop, installed the ethernet drivers, and a week goes by no problems. All of a sudden the internet stopped working so i reinstalled my ethernet driver and no internet still. So to make sure it wasn't the ethernet cord i plugged it into my xbox and xbox live came up. Any suggestions on what i should do?

Are you ona router or straight from the modem.

Also check to see if your nic has any activity lights blinking when you plug the cable in.

By any chance do you have Norton whole suite or any Antivirus with fireall, anti malware, anti spam and all that junk? I've had Norton whole suite mess up my connection which forced me to reformat my pc I just couldn't fix it anyway. Oh and I did nothing for it to stop working, but I knew it was Norton whole suite because I've seen other people get the same problem.

My girls dad had a problem similar to this but with mcafee. Tho it was only blocking firefox and google chrome.

Hopefully its not as extreme for him.

What OS are you running?

It may be a winsock corruption issue.

Try going to the command prompt and typing:

netsh winsock reset

Then hit enter. Try to see if connectivity is restored.

I am on a router and there seems to be two activity lights. The one on the bottom is blinking green and the light on top seems to be a solid orange.
