Thanks for the tip, the actual components are going to be purchased last... as they are most likely to come down in cost.

choices are so limited for mini-itx, the main differences for me is how the sata connectors are laid out (for space) and display outputs.

Not too much to report today, got my Xigmatek Case Fans in the mail from newegg, promptly tore open the package, calmly filled out my $10 mail in rebate form, then proceeded to test them out using my current case.

I quickly grew irritated with the front and rear labels and carefully peeled them off, and cleaned the surface with some rubbing alcohol. I am planning on putting some of the same purple carbon fiber in the middle of the fan blades that I am going to use on the power supply... theme coming together. it should make a sweet spinning weave texture on the fans I hope. also removed the cheap black sleeving to be replaced very soon.

also finished all the cable unsleeving today, here's a look at the 24 pin cable with labels, sans connectors:

I found a technician at work that had the official molex removal tool for these and it was a breeze... worked just a tad better than my modded tool.

sleeving arrives tomorrow, although I am still hesitant to start on some of the cables until I know the cable routing path I am going to take. I will probably do the 24 pin and 4 pins first and maybe wait on the SATA power and fan power. I got me some sweet ideas for cable management in this box since there is no motherboard tray to hide behind... something new.

i will have more by the end of the weekend, build on!

yay update
map out your cable path in sharpie or what not, then you can either sand it off or paint over it
physically, visually mapping your path helps!

so my purple sleeving kit came today from frozencpu. since i am trying to go frugal on this build, i went with mod/smart kit... I will save the mdpc for my rig. i was surprised at the high quality for the price you get. i added some extra colored heatshrink, but for the price you cant beat the included tools too:

i also picked up some purple connectors as well, super insexpensive, but same quality as molex as far as i can tell.

so now on to the sleeving. i did the 4 pin cable that goes to the cpu, but something was bugging me. because I used different substance sleeving, they were kind of moving opposite of each other. i am not sure yet if i want to zip tie them down in my case, but for right now they seemed reckless. so a co-worker mentioned maybe braiding them to go with the kid theme.... so I did. My wife thinks they look fab, but I am having second thoughts. it would be something I have never seen before, but not sure I want the cables to be that much of a feature in the build. Thoughts? opinions? advice? I could use all 3 right now:

either way, the mix an match colors are working for me. i think i just might want to go back to a tidy zip tied down look. Thanks for the support and help!

on to sleeving the rest of the cables this weekend, if I can find the time.

Like my ex-girlfriend of my college years said to me when she was dumping me... I change my mind a lot. I waffled back and forth with the braided cable idea, but in the end it came down to needing the puple sleeving for other cables. realistically I had only have enough to make it an accent color, so it was needed for the 24 pin. so here are some completed pics of the 4 pin as it is going to stay.

and while I am on sleeving - DAMN the heatshrink companies. apparently Frozen CPU's purple 1/4" heatshrink is not the same as the 1/4" that comes in the Mod/Smart sleeving kit. It clearly could not shrink down to single wire thickness, causing some of my wires to look like crap... well crap as far as pro standards go. for a kid's computer, it looks just fine. see the pics below:

one last thing I was able to get done... got some work with the pink carbon fiber vinyl I ordered. I thought it was going to be more a purple color, but the pink goes just as well. I had thought about doing the PSU, but this vinyl is not nearly as thin, high quality, or heat stretchable as the 3M stuff... so I am going to use it other places in the build. here it is on my fans, which I was also able to get sleeved.

I was able to get the case and some SATA cables ordered on friday, so hopefully by the end of the week I will have some more toys to screw around with. enjoy the holiday.

http://www.overclock.net/small-form-...puter-can.html You can do the braid. Do two sleeved wires at a time.

Look at that link and see how I did it

Edit: sub'd. I enjoyed my q08 build and I'm sure you will too.
