Ebay has a couple HK sellers (only ones) who sell in sheets in 1, 2 and 3mm thicknesses. I got a 100mm x 200mm x 1mm sheet for under $20 shipped, think it was more around $15+/-.

How long did it take to get to you? I noticed those sellers also and considered them, but the delivery time is my biggest concern at this point.

I actually did some research on the big 3 electronics suppliers I normally use for work (Newark, Digikey, Mouser) and found the manufacturers of 3mm thermal gap filler pads. then I used my work address to request "samples" for the pads I need. we will see what comes of this, but we have done this in the past when we just need 1 of a hard to find component... does the trick.

I just dont want this thermal gap filler pad issue to stall the whole project. monday the remaining components arrive, and I am still trying to lockdown a waterjet cutter as well. i will give the gpu a 2 week time limit for completion... at least then I can get the PC up and running, stable, and all programs installed before I update the graphics.

praying i wired all the cables properly... zap!

I just so happen to do a little bit of work with water jet at work. I'll send you a PM

Take a look at my build log if you want to see some of the results. I used it to cut the top holes in my case.

So I finally got some components in and save for a few minor snafus, we are nearing completion. So this came on Monday, which made for a great start to the week:

There were two issues though, the first is that the ram did not come until tuesday... which basically meant complete installation and test was impossible. The second problem occurred when I realized (before even opening it) the CM Geminii cooler I had ordered online was going to be too wide and would block my PCI express slot... doh! so i ran down to Fry's and conjured up a story about how i got it as a gift, long story short... they gave me store credit, where i picked up this instead which should do the trick just fine:

So i got it all put together pretty easily, nice not having to attach the cpu cooler to the back of the board. here is the first mock up:

then Corsair 4 GB 1600 Mhz ram came yesterday and I knew I was in for a long night of assembly and test. ram fit fine without any cooler clearance issues:

the toughest part of the assembly was the wiring, as you are very limited on space in a case of this size. even with smaller components like these tiny little hard drives, there is little room for your hands in there. here is the assembly of the drive tray just before I installed the slim dvd drive:

fast forward to 10:30 pm last night and I got all the kinks worked out, drivers installed, LED's functional. currently the cpu is running around 30 C at idle. because i have not put the GPU in, there has been very little heat stress in the case and the Seasonic fan has barely even turned on yet. it is not too noisy, despite the 92mm cpu fan which is a little small for my taste. here is a pic of the cable management with the side panel off:

believe it or not, i can actually get my hand thru that mess to reach the motherboard. everything is zip-tied down so that i can transport it easy without worry. it is tough to get some pics of the purple lighting, but I have a couple here that turned out okay:

so currently there are led's on both case fans, and i have a purple LED strip on the floor of the case facing the side where I am going to cut some designs in the panel. I am in the middle of working out the kinks on a waterjet cutter, didnt realize they could be so pricey. The side panel and the video card are the last items that need to be finished, and all the cables for the GPU are already in place... just plug er in and go!

the windowed side panel should get a nice steady purple glow and decent view of the interior, especially in a dark room.

it is getting there... hopefully a July Mod of the Month award in my future.

Incredible cable management for the room you have to work in. Looks very clean.

The more pics I see the more I feel this should be a My Little Pony-themed build (I'm probably going to get slapped for saying that, but DEAL WITH IT).
Stick on some Rarity or Pinkie Pie stickers once you're done and that'd be grand.

even though the build is for my girls, I wouldn't go totally commercial just yet... despite the fact they have the toys.

I can't forgive the low quality of the cartoon, but perhaps a Max and Ruby computer...
