Do you have any programs such as Speedfan or programs that came with your mobo that may be causing the fan to not speed up?
Fresh windows install after a raid setup. I have been noticing these temps for several months now and have had this cpu at 90% and up for 15+ hours on many occasions with video editing and capturing.

Just installed speedfan and my cpu fan is I think maxed out at 3400rpm. Just set it to 0% on speedfan and dropped to 1200rpm around there. So is the max rpm on these stock coolers 3400rpm? I know I heard this thing kick into to fighter jet mode a few months ago.

Just to give you an idea of what the normal temps should be mate. Ive just bought a 955 as well, and im currently only using the stock fansync also. plus i have the cpu overclocked to 3.6 and the NB at 2.4 and my max temps during prime95 are only 41c man, if you don't find a quick solution to your problem and you only just bought the chip, id recommend RMA tbh.

It might be safer to just RMA even if you do find a solution, in case it got damaged with the high temps, could pose a problem down the line?

The 955's heatsink isn't all that impressive.. In my thermaltake v3 case I almost burned my hand touching the back of the case where the cpu was seated during full load. and yeah... it was ridiculously loud! it wasn't even stable at stock clocks. i put in an aftermarket HSF which completely solved the problem. something like coolermaster's tx3 or the like is relatively cheap and effective.

The funny part it I NEVER had temps like that. The day I bought this cpu and put it in I noticed the temps seemed too high. I doubt amd would help me let alone newegg. I'll just have to buy another cpu.

it should be covered in your warranty. if anything, you should be able to get a sparkly new one.

How long ago did you buy the cpu man? Surely if its recently you more then qualify for RMA if the cpu is not working as intended. You not not have it overclocked, nor overvolted, infact you've it undervolted. And its still boiling. The only way that would happen to a new chip that isnt faulty imo, is if you got a bad seat, You live next door to hell, or the TIM wasn't on correctly. Other then a component damaged that is.

Almost going on a year now. I'm going to use the pea size in the middle of the chip and let the heatsink spread it out method instead of the very thin layer across the whole chip method. :\\

Do this... then if nothing changes I would try to RMA. If you got it a year ago and the temps were never right, and you've been running it at over Tjmax for that long then well... it just might be beyond reprieve. I wonder why you didn't at least try a cheap after market HSF? I've seen the hyper 212+ for 20 dollars.
