Worth trying CoD4?

Thread Starter
I've been wanting to get a CoD game for my PC for a while now. I've played MW2 and Black Ops on the Xbox 360 with my friends, but I've always preferred PC over consoles and I've wanted a shooter I can play on my own on the PC. I play BC2 from time to time, but every time I do I remember how much of a pain it is when you're by yourself and not playing with a group. I also have Crysis 2, but since I had to stop playing it due to finals/final projects, I haven't felt the desire to play it. At first I thought the energy system was kinda interesting, but after a while it just got tedious/over complicated. What I really want is Call of Duty.

I don't really want to get Black Ops for the PC, since my friends and I play that on Xbox almost every night. In a strange way, I do kind of miss MW2 (mostly because it was the first shooter I really got into) but no dedicated servers is a big concern, and I never was a fan of the balance in that game (OMA noob tubes ftw! ) I've never really heard anything good about World at War, which brings me to...

CoD4. I've never played it before, and I've always heard people say they thought it was "the best" It's only $30 on Steam, which isn't a big deal, the big question is, how badly am I going to get my ass whooped in multiplayer by people that have been playing it from day 1? If nothing else it'd be another single player campaign to play if I don't enjoy the multiplayer.
Yall think it'd be worth trying out to burn some free time during summer break?

$30? Maybe $15 max.

I got mine for $1, I don't play it much but coincidentally I'm installing it now because I got interested (friends plays, but pirated version lol) it's "fun" I suppose.

Last time I played it (several months ago) I had ~1.5 KD and was doing alright for not knowing the maps (1st time actually in MP), so if you can quickly aim/rush it's all good.

People regard CoD4 as the best for multi shooter in the series.

I enjoyed it of the CoD's currently I would only play 4 online, though my interest has been there for Mw2 on the pc

I would never regard CoD4 as "best" CoD....CoD2 holds that title. In CoD4, it started going down hill, catoring towards bad players and casuals. Nade launchers, zeus grenades, complete lack of recoil etc....

Last time I tried playing COD4, I raged quit nearly all of the servers due to an unnecessary amount of hacking...Really, the game is how many years old, and people still are hacking? (Doesn't count towards other FPS)

My first exposure to cod was cod4 at a friends house on his xbox. I went and got it. My laptop wasn't good enough for 40fps so CoD4 got me into overclocking too.

It was a great great game.

Bleh CoD 4 stock public is horrible, but if your thinking of playing promod then I would definitley recommend it.

I've always found the older the game is the more prevalent hackers actually are. Why this is I'm not sure, could be just the fact that there's less legit players there so the hackers are more noticeable or maybe the cheats just become easier to find or cheaper to buy. Who knows its damn sad in any case. I love going back and having a blast on cod 1 or 2 but i never lasts long because of the hackers ruining it.

I echo this, COD4 + Promod is still one of my favourite FPS games to date.

You don't even need to do anything special to play promod, it automatically downloads from the servers that use it when you join, it takes about 10-20 seconds.
