Help me pick 1 of 3 MoBo's

Thread Starter
I've been looking around newegg for a good mobo and i just summed it down to 3 mobos. Pls help me pick the better one and explain why you think its a better choice that the other 2.

1. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-494-_-Product

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128478

3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130574

They are all the exact same price. I'm leaning more towards the gigabyte z68 simply because of the matte black. The only difference from what i can tell is that the gigabyte p67 has 2 less 6.0gb sata that the rest. And when it comes to VRM the gigabyte z68 has 16 phase, gigabyte p67 has 12 phase, and the msi p67 has only 6 phase.
To be honest i still don't know what VRM is. can someone pls explain it in layman's term.

what are some other differences between the boards?
i know that the z68 board has:
1. Integrated graphics support (idk what this is)
2. Use of Quicksync for video transcoding (idk what this is)
3. SSD Caching ( i will use a large ssd)

My build so far:
Intel i5 2500k
Asus directcu ii 570 (i will SLI eventually)

Corsair 650d
Corsair vengeance 8gb
Corsair 850ax

I would probably get the Z68 motherboard out of those choices.

But, that Z68 mobo doesn't offer the integrated graphics. Just so you know.

I read about the Z68 features regarding, in particular, the SSD Caching. If the info on wikipedia about it is accurate, I decided I won't need it. You need RAID and is mostly applicable to smaller capacity SSDs such as 64GB.

I'm looking at Z68 and P67 boards but if I go for a Z68 mobo, I thought I might as well try to get one that includes the integrated graphics. Although, the cpu makes a difference of which one you can use, I think.

Those are all good motherboards but I would eliminate the Gigabyte P67 board out of those since there is two less SATA 6GB ports. It should be less money if there is less features.

THAT^ without a doubt. Costs the same as the P67 boards and you get more feature and new tech without compromising anything, its a no brainer.

If your going to sli, the MSI P67A-GD65 pcie slots ,will run at x16x16, the other two will run x16x8 and x8x8 - correct me if im wrong. This may not be a huge difference in the end, but if your spending alot of money on high end graphics you will be giving away performance. (Just my opinoin!)

For anything other than SLI 590s and Crossfire 6990 the difference is negligible (like barely 1-2%). This has been proven time and time again and I really wish people would stop mentioning this 16x/8x business.

HMMM ??? Before you get angry and start insulting people maybe you should take a look at this?

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/03/...sis/index.html

and this is a few yrs old. there was almost a 50% fps loss with a 8800gts ( x4 - x16) and between x8 - x16 almost 12% loss

There is a 1% difference between running 16x/16x and 8x/8x on single GPU cards.

Have a look at something more recent mate:

Ok i never said it was a huge huge difference , but remmember he said SLI 570,s So in some games he could lose from 7% - 15% Big deal to most ? NO
Big deal to me when i already spent $1000,s on my system ? ( YES)

The guy in your video didn't even do any testing! He's talking in theory, where are he's results?

The video I showed you is relevant to today and more importantly OP. He's component selections are very similar to those in the video which clearly proved there is no more than a 1-2% difference, not 15%.

Here is a "gaming scenario" if you weren't convinced with the synthetic tests that proves the same thing:
P.S in the first video 580s were tested, their performance is higher than 570s, so if 8x/8x didn't bottleneck 580s then it definitely wouldn't bottleneck 570s
